The State of Craps in Atlantic City

This is my first post on this Forum. I am an experienced craps player (about 10 years) and play two or three time a month in AC. I was in Atlantic City last week and wanted to give a brief update on the state of things on the craps front - in a word it’s crappy! (sorry again - prromise that’s the last one)

I played at Hilton - two tables open on an early Thursday afternoon. One $10 and one $5! I then went to Bally’s. They had two $10’s. (I’ve never seen a $5 at
Bally’s) On to Claridge where I found their one table set at $5.00.(Has been $10 at all times) Finally to Wild West where their single table was $10.

I’ve been a regular at AC for about 10 years now and just before the economy went south there were many more tables at each of these
casinos, they had more tables opened at any given time and the $5 table was a vanishing breed. On this trip one-third of the tables
were at $5.

I don’t know about you, but I always look for the LOWEST minimum I can find. Of course if the table gets hot I up my bet - first increasing
odds to the max and then if it gets really good, raising say a $5 PL to $10 etc. So, even if the economy is in the crapper (that’s a bona
fide word, not a third pun) I can enjoy lower minimums because I still have the disposable income to wager.

What really concerns me though is the reduction in the number of tables on the properties and the number that remain idle. Let’s hope
the trends reverse once the economy turns positive.

Cheers,

I have changed to the iron cross system vs. the darkside betting because the table I’ve been playing, plays-out less than double the odds when they advertise 3X the odds; they do this by limiting the max bet of $50 on the table.

In the past I have bet $80 inside working on the come out;($20 PLACE line bet on the 5, $30 PLACE line bet on both the 6 and 8) with $10 on the FIELD and $10 on the PASS LINE.

But lately I have skipped the place bet on the FIVE and called the $4 2-way hop on the FIVE. And I continue to return to the hop bet until the FIVE has been rolled or a seven out.

A come out roll with a natural SEVEN to win would net a loss of $80 VS. $64. Yet my gaming yield at the table on the HOP bet seem to outway the $20 PLACE bet in the long run. I find it hard to track when at the tables and I have charted my on-line play showing some profitable success.

Some may ask, “why $10 instead of $5 increments?”. Well, should one hit the FIVE on the come out a $2 2-way hop on the NINE is my next bet; unless the table pays off on the half dollar($.50) than I would play a $5 vs $10.

Just curious about the longest session the folks here have played at the table.

Once I played from 12 noon to 4am, 16 hour session at the Venetian Vegas. I was down 4000, and made a run at the end to broke even. Freaking long session without eating anything, I felt like a degenerate, but it was quite fun too.

I have practiced learning to influence dice for the last couple of years off and on. I’m not that good and have no intention of paying a couple of thousand to learn from those who teach it. I haven’t been entirely convinced it’s really doable until the other day at the casino. A fellow standing to my left took the dice after me and proceeded to throw the dice in a way I could only dream of. They spun together as if glued. One throw just thuded down without even a bounce hitting the point (dealer admonished him). Unfortunately he made a small slip and the dice went to far hitting the back wall before hitting the felt for a 7 out after establishing the second point. He had the farm bet and left the table in disgust. I was impressed. Now I know guys like this actually exist.

Did you know you need a SRR of only 6.2 to even the odss when you place the 6 and 8? With a Dice Control lesson and some practice, this is fairly easy to accomplish. One of the reason you may still be losing with a SRR or 6.2 or higher, may be due to how you are betting. Most other bets, like placing the 4,5,9,10 require a SRR higher than 6.2 and if you don’t have that, in the long run you will NOT have an edge over the casino. Sure, you may get a hot roll, but over time, you will be walking away from the table empty handed.
Take a lesson. Even Pro Athelets have coaches. Learn more about dice control. Learn which bets are best based upon your SRR.
