Dice Control - Exactly What Does THAT Mean to You -

Yes, people -

Like the topic heading asks - What is the meaning of Dice Control to you -

Perhaps if we went ” back to basics ” and statred talking apples and apples and not apples and oranges -

We just might come to an accepted definition as to what DC IS and what it IS NOT !

The term Dice Control could and more than likely does have a multitude of definitions - possibly one for each member of this forum ! -

What percentage of off-axis throws / on-axis throws / single pitch throws / primary hit throws / secondary hit throws / both die off- axis throws -

Constitute Dice Control or the distinct/possible lack there-of ?

Then how many throws need to be evaluated to arrive at a possible starting point to critique the shooters’ ability at DC ?

Perhaps when those questions are answered and agreed upon - then we can conduct a survey regarding the validity of Dice Control !

Getting a grip on it

Several months ago there was a discussion where someone (I think it was SnakeEyes) posted a picture of a grip that was similar to one that my grandfather used to use. I’ve always avoided that grip as its difficult to do quickly, and my hand shakes a little when I do it even slowly… but lately I’ve been toying around with it, and shaky hand and all.. I’m impressed.. and slowly the speed of getting it into place is coming along. Only used it on my own table at home, but it should hit the tables, probably in Biloxi, next month.

Mini craps table (Craps Shoot)

On my last trip I played on a mini craps table. ( Craps Shoot) for the first time.

The 6 foot table where you sit down to play. There is only one dealer, He is the stick person, dealer and box man. He works 30 minutes and off 30 minutes.

If you every have a chance to play at this table, DO! If you have any kind of control at all you should do real good.

Do to timing (they closed the table when they opened the regular crap table). I was up $100. in 5 minutes playing conservative. Starting out with a $6.00 six . I just rolled 6s and 8s. I was the only one at the table and it was time to roll as soon as he paid me. A pretty fast pace game.

Is there a mini craps (Craps Shoot) table in your area? Looking for another road trip and that may make a different’s on where I go.

Does anyone off the top of their head know the size of the tables at the Golden Nugget? I like playing there but haven’t been there in awhile. I seem to remember them as 12’ves but does anyone know for sure?

Craps Table Questions

Hello. My name is Dustin and I manufacture craps tables & other casino products. I have just started getting into the dice setting side of craps and was wondering what the average dice controller prefers for their craps table. What type of bounce, what size table, etc. as I’m trying to learn more about this. I was also wondering if there was any way to know what casinos use on their tables for backing & the size of the tables at specific casinos because I know they are all different. It seems to me that when it comes to dice control, there are those who believe it can be done, those who don’t believe, and those who don’t know what to believe. Arguments about whether or not it’s possible usually comes down to one side saying “prove it”, and the other side saying “here is the proof”, and then the previous side saying “no, that’s not proof” or “that’s not good enough” or something like that.

Whichever side you believe in, I would like to know what kind of proof would be required to make you change your mind about dice control. If you believe that it can’t be done, what could prove to you that it’s possible? On the other hand, if you believe that people are really influencing the dice (or that it’s at least possible), what could prove to you that this is not the case? Some of you have already stated that you cannot be convinced otherwise… but there has to be something that can change your mind… even if it’s far fetched, like the “second coming of Jesus” as SC put it.

For me, I would need slow motion video of what are supposedly controlled throws that show that at least one die is rotating in a consistent manner from throw to throw… from the point where the dice make initial contact with the table to the point where they are at rest. I would assume that it would be easier for a machine to make a precise dice throw, as opposed to humans. If a human were unable or unwilling to accomplish this feat, I would accept that it’s at least possible if a machine could do it.

My main issue with dice control is that I find it difficult to believe that the rotation along all three axes (x/y/z or roll/pitch/yaw) can be kept under “control” once the dice hit the back wall. I will even concede that it’s possible that a shooter can eliminate roll and yaw after the dice strike the table, but I don’t believe that the pyramids can be repeatedly struck so precisely as to predict how they will behave after they bounce off the wall. If, on “controlled throws”, at least one die can be shown to repeatedly rotate along its axes (even if it’s rotating along all three) in the same way before it comes to a rest, that will convince me.
