Anyone tried dark side betting?

In land-based casinos, the vast majority of gamblers who play Craps bet that the dice will pass. In other words, most players bet that the shooter will make his or her Point Number before rolling a Seven.

However, there is a whole other dimension to the game of Craps known as betting the Don’t. A lot of people refer to this as “betting the dark side”.

I found the above piece in a book but there is no detailed info on dark side betting there in. Can someone please elaborate?

Don’t Come, varying odds up and down

I had an interesting idea for a betting strategy to implement at my local casino, Cache Creek. It involves just a don’t come bet, laying different odds multiples depending on the state of my bankroll. On the one hand, it increases the odds bet a couple of times at different amounts of net winnings; on the other hand, it also increases the odds bet a couple of times at different amounts of net loss. So, it has elements of two main categories of betting systems: increasing on wins and increasing on losses. So, it has the “back half” of the D’Alembert system, but increases on wins rather than decreases, as does the D’Alembert.

My strategy is not based on wins or losses, but rather bankroll benchmarks.
Here’s how it works:

start with $200
when a point is established, make one $5 don’t come bet
if it goes to a point number, lay single odds ($10 4/10, $9 5/9, $6 6/8)

if/whenever the bankroll gets over $250 or under $150, lay double odds ($20, $15, $12)
if/whenever the bankroll gets over $300 or under $100, lay 3, 4, 5X odds ($30 for all)

So, if I’m winning more than $50, I increase the variance with more odds, hoping to win even more. If I lose back to under $250, I go back to single odds.

If I’m losing more than $50, I increase the variance, hoping to come back. Of course, this increases the probability of busting, but it also increases the probability of coming back. Yes, this is what Sam Grafstein calls “chasing losses”, but I am only talking about $200, which I am fully prepared to lose. If I come back up to over $150, I go back to single odds.

I created a WinCraps auto-bet file to test this out. The parameters:

starting bankroll $200
sessions end when:
1) bankroll less than $35 (can’t make $5 + $30)
2) 200 rolls and last bet resolved
10,000 sessions

avg. num. rolls 197
avg. num. bets 53.5

avg. bet handle $523

avg. net result -$3.62

median net result -$3

mode of net result +$1 to +$7

standard deviation $90

avg. house advantage 0.69%

winning sessions 4844

breakeven sessions 47

losing sessions 5109

number of busts 701

lost more than $100 1228

lost more than $50 2892

won more than $50 2574

won more than $100 935

won more than $150 477

won more than $200 242

biggest win $438

So, it provides almost a 49% chance to break even or better, well under a 10% likelihood of busting and a 1-in-4 chance of winning at least 1/4 of my bankroll. Of course, things can go south pretty quickly - one session last only 42 rolls - but that’s true of almost any strategy. There’s always a sequence of rolls out there that will hammer any strategy, as well as a sequence that will suit it to a tea.

I plan on trying it out tomorrow night.
Cheers,
Alan Shank

Hedge?

This is kind of a goofy idea, but still worth throwing out their.

Their has been numerous times that i have a significant amount of money on the layout when the shooter throws a seven. I’ll add up my place bets and have 1,000 dollars or more on the layout. With my 50% presses i always wind up with a little more than whats on the layout in the rail as a profit. I’m a firm believer that you shouldn’t remove your bets at all. And i believe that you have to press in order to make a good profit. Obviously having that much money on the layout when the shooter sevens out, is the price i pay for my style of play. However, it still sinks kind of deep and can get quite aggravating. I tend to say to myself, “if i only called my bets off on that toss”. or “I should have regressed when i reached a certain amount on the layout”. I never wind of doing any of those because you never know when that hot roll is going to end.

I don’t plan on removing my bets completely, or regressing significantly. However, i have been thinking about a hedge to my place bets when the monetary value reaches lets say for argument sake 600 or more, or 1000 or more. Something significant at least.

I was trying to think of something that would hedge 1/3 of my layout value, so that if that inevitable seven jumps up and bites me, i still walk away with a little.

I’ve thought of making come bets equivilant to a 1/3 of the layout, and then hedging the come with an anycraps bet.

I’ve also thought of hoppin sevens. (however i really dont want to be the one at the table hoppin sevens in the middle of a hot roll, their really is no quiet way to hop sevens)

Even though both of these thoughts do exactly what they are intended to do, which is minimize losses. After doing the math on both, i havent grown fond of either idea. As a hedge minimizes losses, it also minimizes wins.

I’m just wondering if anyone has thought of something like this. I dont know just something to bs about i guess….

I was driving back to LA from Palm Springs to catch a flight back home. Since I still had some time to kill, of the I-10 I saw the Morongo Casino. I went to the Craps table placed the 5 & 9 for $10.00 each, stickman calls out Seven Out. Seven out I said to myself. looking around, didn’t see any Dice. So I said Where’s The Dice. He explained it to me that in the State of California Dice are not allowed. They were using 2 sets of cards, One being color Blue the other one Red. They draw one card of each stack and call out the resulting point.

Didn’t stay too long, not because there were no Dice on the table, I just couldn’t stand the smoke in the Casino, my eyes were burning. The irony is, I’m a smoker.

I found a site online : http://www.gamblersmind.com/order/let.php

I’m wondering if anyone else has any knowledge of or experience with this site and this material. I assume it’s a scam but can’t find any reviews. The so-called testimonials on the web page are a red-flag, since I looked up all the ones I could on zabasearch.com and it seems as though the people don’t actually exist.

Since I work in the mental health field so I am always interested in anything having to do with the psychology of gambling.
