easy come, easy go

Had to share this story.

I was playing at my local place yesterday and this young guy comes in with his uncle. He is going to show the uncle how to play craps. He puts down 10 $20 bills and asks for greens.
First roll, he puts $100 on any craps and $100 on the field. roll was snakes eyes. Takes his $900 profit
Next roll he doubles his bets….roll was an ace-duece for a $1500 win.He goes nuts hugging everyone in sight. He asks for 2 $500 chips which he puts in his pocket and puts the rest in his rack..I tell him “good for you - keep a zipper on that pocket”
He continues to play virtuallly the same way, with an occassional $25 on each of the hardways.
He wins an occassional field bet, but nothing else.
Five minutes later he goes into his pocket to take out the $500 chips.
Two minutes later, he is gone - busted.

Damn…....

I have always wanted to play craps but never knew enough to go put my money down. I have doing some research and played some online games. My main concern is that I want to make sure 1) I’m following proper etiquette and 2) not betting unknowingly in a way that is detrimental to my bank roll. I have a couple questions if you all could help me out.

1. I saw on youtube a strategy where you first make your pass line bet with table minimum then once the point is made you bet 1 unit in the field and cover the 6 & 8 in the box numbers. the field bet helps cover the other numbers untill you bankroll enough house money to cover the rest of the box numbers. then progressively with wins you cover all box numbers. i’ve tried this online and seems to work ok, would this work in the “real world”? seems like it may be a common strategy

2. using the strategy above in my on line play, once was the point is made i have been clearing out my box bets and repeating the process from scratch with a new come out roll. Is this the right thing to do? or do i just let them site there until the shooter sevens out?

3. setting the dice. i saw on youtube a series on setting the dice, i think it was golden touch craps (something like that?). as long as you aren’t slowing the game will everyone casino allow you to set the dice however you want before rolling?

4. in Vegas will I have a hard time finding $5 tables on strip? I dont want to invest a ton of money on a game I have never played.

newbie: my monster roll last night

i went to my local casino with a small bankroll of $200 last night. the table was a $15 min and i managed to play just above even for about two hours. so i get the dice after about shooting four times or so earlier and only making one point and then it happened. i made 5 points and 4 come out sevens. i made the 4, 10, 5, 8 twice and busted out shooting for the nine. i didn’t have a fire bet and since i am new to the game i was only playing a $18 6 and 8 and $25 on the 9 and i only had $15 odds behind the pass line. so after i finally crapped out. i had made $455 bucks. i know i should of pressed my bets and increased my odds bets but i never have thrown more than 3 points before and was kind of in a throwing zone/ trance and wasn’t thinking about the money at the time. i am happy with my winnings but a couple of guys who came late to the table during my roll told me than i could have made a boat load of money if i would have been pressing my bets up on all the numbers and placing larger free odds bets. would love to hear from people as to what would be a basic way to ramp up my wagers while shooting without getting myself overwhelmed. thanks scott

I won on my last trip ( $800 ) . I started placing the 6 & 8 for $30 & letting them work on the come out & playing $10 on the pass taking odds on the point rolled. I did get killed a few times with the 7 on the come out ,but I did good over all . If the point was 6 or 8 ,I took that $35 & placed it on the odds. I never played more than 3 numbers . 6 , 8 & a third number made on the come out. If 5 is the point , I would just lay $20 on the odds then if a 6 or 8 is made ,I would take $20 of the $35 & push the odds up to max of $40 . I am starting to favor the place bet over the come bets because each of the come bets have to be made twice. I did good on the sucker horn bet on the come out by playing $5 horn ,high on the 12 & parlaying one time. It was a 2 day trip & I started doing this the second day . May not work my next trip ,but I think I will stick with this for a while. ( One will never overcome the house odds, but we can play smart & have fun on comps) Suite,meals ,match play. Fire wall bet ?

Had a good trip to Harrington’s & Dover this Wednesday & yes I did play the Don’t & lost before moving to the Pass line. I have a question ? what is a frigging fire wall bet? & why so much discussion about it? Any thing that pays 1000 to one has got to be nearly impossible. Won $800 , but was up over 2K before the cold streak . Dam my hide !! why didn’t leave earlier. Pogo

newbie: playing at a $15 min table everyone is playing the minimum. why? i know it’s probably because the free odds after the point gets established but there were a lot of come out winning rolls. a high roller at the table betting the table minimum rolled three 7’s and said he didn’t want to hit any sevens and was pissed off. any thoughts?

say i am playing at a $10 minimum table can i put more than $10 down on the pass line on the come out roll, and if a seven is not rolled and instead a point is established, can i reduce my pass line bet to the minimum?

Yes that is my craps play has gone to crap. I am a $100 buy in guy who likes the $5 min tables I used to be happy to bet the 6and or 8 and the pass line bet usually a fire bet too. Then I started doing the Iron Cross I think you call it with a little success at first now it seems no matter which way I go my money is gone in one trip around the table I need help to tighten up my game it is starting not to be much fun LOL.

i thought some one might already know this answer and save me a long tedious job of charting expectorents…..I WOULD NEVER PLAY FOR REAL MONEY ONLINE ......however i was interested in knowing if the simulated practice games of craps such as bodog or elsewhere yield approximate number ratios you’de expect to see in a live casino such as the 7 about 1 in 6 times….the 9 about one in 9 times etc etc
