I recently went to the local casino in my hometown(Turning Stone Casino) on fathers day and had a 30 minute roll(using hardways 4's on top)...which was followed up by the guy behind me with a hour roll.it was a great day everybody was winning.i noticed the dice were dark red and smaller...which is better for me to to grip because i have small hands.I decided to come the next day & try my luck and i bumped into a friend at the craps table who said the "tables were horrible"..he said its because they have "those big dice today"..he said he didnt come fathers day bcuz he thought they would pull those dice out to rake in money for the holiday..so i dnt pay it anymind and began shooting the dice as normal routine with hardway set..i rolled a few 7's on the comeout..established a point..then follewed up with immediate 7 clean out.this happened on several occasions and i noticed nobody at the table hit numbers or points.i started to look more closely at the dice and noticed they were bigger..Bright Red ..with a more shiny coating on it..kinda glossy looking, the lights reflected of the dice alot.when gripping the dice..they felt slippery and sweaty feeling.the dice on the previous day(fathers day)were dark red...they were dull looking..didnt really reflect of the light...they also were'nt sweaty feeling at all..my friend called them the "cherry dice'.he say the cherry dice are the winning dice and the big red ones are the bad dice that are real light and bouce around table and flip flop up and land on 7...i bought both pair from the gift shop and i can see the difference in both..im thinkingni should throw the cherry dice with proper technique..and throw the big ones a little offset??what are your thoughts please?????.

HotHand. Sure could use a long roll every once in a while when I am playing!

I did a long winded monograph on dice somewhere on the forum. It might answer some of your questions. The "tangerine" red from one company can be different from another that supplies dice to the Turning Stone. At times the Casino will work two or more dice/card/supply companies against one another for a better price. Sometimes the Casino is a bit paranoid and superstitious, so vary the suppliers.

If a dice order arrives that is not "perfect", the Casino will gather all sticks of five and return them... to get them perfect. If they are not perfect, the dice WILL not be random enough for them. Even if it is a very small preference of the dice to one side or another when thrown. You also have "razor edge" glossy dice and "rounded edge" sanded looking dice just as a beginning assortment. There are no restrictions, other than the Casino's requirements... color, edge, size, spots, security.

Good eyes to have noticed. Someday the scarcer of the two variations will be a collectable. Even the logos change over time to keep the security under control. If you and others and putting a dent into profits... do not change the shooter... change the dice to confound them all!

Players can't expect much of anything in the way of consistency, regulation and rules in Indian casinos.

New Jersey regulates all that by state law.

Thank you Sancho. Even an old dog can learn something new.

Checking some Atlantic City casino dice I have, they all are .750 inch in transparent and frosted tangerine reds. I do not know if other colors are used, as I am looking at Trump Plaza and Trump Castle dice. I also understand that ALL Atlantic City dice are cancelled by the Casino drilling a hole through the Ace. Is that what you have noticed? Most other Casinos will use the Star or Circle stamp into the surface to deface each die. Some older dies will have an ice pick ding in it. The transparent ones I am looking at have an "M" on the center three spot if you look through the die for security on those used at the time.

What do u guys recomend for the light weight bright red dice as far as throwing technique?seems like if i throw'em too low them the dice dont flip enough...and when i throw them high but soft, they tumble down the table after hitting the back wall..or on dice would stop at 5 and the other dice will hit table then bouce high in the air vertacally and then land on 2...seems like the more cherry red dice are heavier and land how their supposed to land...how can i counter the big doofy red dice???

As mentioned already, casinos use several different suppliers for dice. Standard size is .750 but they also come in the larger .775 size. Pai Gow dice are smaller, and I've seen them on a dice table before as well. Dealers don't like smaller dice because it makes them harder to read the roll results. From time to time you'll run across 19mm dice. The main reason why casinos use different sizes and colors and finishes of dice - security. If cheaters who gaff dice don't know which color or size or finish dice are going to be used on any given day it makes it more difficult for them to insert crooked dice in the game. Plus - casinos always worry about collusion between dealers and players or vendors and players or dealers. Their motto seems to be trust no one and verify everything. Get used to it. It's not going to change.
