At the risk of getting 90% of the community off side. Can any Las Vegan locals or savvy visitors please clarify if don’t place (DP) bets are taken in all or some Las Vegas casinos? I’ve read online that they aren’t.
Question 2. Is commission only paid on winning lay bets or do you pay the 5% up front regardless.
Would be grateful for a reply from someone in the know.

Commission varies from casino to casino. You have to ask. Rio didn't charge up front last time I was there which was over a year ago. Sams Town did charge up front last time I made a lay bet there which was also over a year ago.

As far as the don't place I heard some places accept them but you have to ask.

All the Azure bubble machines have don't place bets and I use that on the 6/8 only.

    Thanks for the reply mssthis1.
Take on board your experiences thanks. It’s funny I would’ve thought it would’ve been the other way around and Sam’s Town would’ve been more generous than The Rio.
I’ve played at the former and at the time they were either 5 or 10 times odds (about eight years ago). Being so far away from the strip I figured they were offering players slightly more attractive odds to try and get their business.
I’ve never set foot in The Rio.

    Wrongway,
It's just my opinion, but Rio used to be quite nice of a place the first 5 or 6 years it was open, I liked it better when the Craps tables were upstairs. It's really a different feel to the place since they moved them onto the ground floor. In fairness, I haven't been in it since autumn 2015. Maybe they've been sprucing things up since then, but it had declined a lot over the years as of last visit. If you're on foot up & down the strip, it's also a moderate hike over there and back, no sweat if you have wheels, just FYI.
It would be nice if they could return it some glory of old!

I agree, the rio is a shithole compared to what it used to be.

Haven't visited it the past few trips but thinking about playing in a couple wsop tournaments this year.

    MT1,

My PROPS to you on that adventure, it sure would be cool just to finish in the money! I'm good(ish?) I've won a high percentage of "tournaments" I've been in, but that was crashing my brother-in-laws' neighborhood locals and I'm smart enough to have never played poker in a Casino ever.
I'll stick to my wheelhouse of Craps, Craps, & Craps!!

    Mt1,

Did I see you post about visiting LV in mid-late April?
If so, there's a decent chance I'm visiting around then, I don't quite have my plans nailed down yet, but I'm in the works with it.

I've entered 8 WSOP events over the years and cashed in 2. Last 2 years I haven't played tournament poker. There's a MSPT event here the end of the month that I plan on entering.

Apr 23rd -27th are the days we'll be in Vegas.

    Mt1,

Friggin' sweet! You definitely have some skills then.

(mental note to self; Don't sit down to a "friendly game" of Poker with Mt1 for real)

Impressive feats there, that doesn't happen by accident!! So, who's the biggest name in Poker that you've been at the table with? Any great beats on the river to share?

    Thanks!

Phil Ivy, Phil Hellmuth, Barry Greenstein. Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, TJ Cloutier, Amerillo Slim, Jamie Gold are a few. If you last very long at all in the big tournaments you get moved to different tables a lot as people bust out. With Phil Hellmuth I was only at his table for a half hour or so and he got tapped to move to a different table.

The last tournament I played in had over 4800 entrants. Busted out of that one late in the first day. My aces got busted by a guy who had Q/10 suited and I read him wrong.

I've played with Barry Greenstein several times. We used to play a little Blackjack together once in a while. Since he's always on the ragged edge of getting barred for counting we'd usually just play long enough to make dinner money.

I've ran into TJ several times at craps tables in Council Bluffs and the Rio. He isn't a pleasant person to play craps with unless you wear earplugs.

I like to think of myself as a journeyman poker player, able to hold my own at a "kitchen table" game, but I too have never set foot in a casino poker parlor. I fear I would only be feed for the lions, particularly at my "local" (Jackpot, NV) haunt. At least when I play with a group of friends/colleagues I know I am not in a "team game".

I have watched a few WSOP programs on TV, and while I do not play just for the fun of it neither do I feel like subjecting myself to an ordeal. I am not sure how much of Mike "The "Mouth" Matusow and his ilk I could take. In my youth -- college days and a several years thereafter -- I was an avid bridge player, but gave it up when 11 of the 13 pairs I faced in tournaments changed from congenial to downright hostile, accusing me of lying and cheating while lying and cheating themselves.

That's one of the reasons I don't play much. That and no matter how much they try to glamorize it on tv, 99% of tournament poker is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

I played some small 30 or 40 person tournaments . Last one at Belterra where finished top 3 and we just chopped pot since the difference between top 3 wasn’t that much. I think hellmuth and negraneau I would like to play at a tournament table with. Hellmuth only because it would be great to knock him out and see him go ballistic!

Easily determined by paying attention to the dealers. I do not recall ever seeing the same dealer at the same table on consecutive hands. Tells me that some we are not being shown hands in anything approaching real time. Not at all surprising when I SWAG they are compressing 8000 man-hours of play into 5. (I think the longest period of time I have gone without making a voluntary bet is three hours.)

Wouldn't it be choice to have a guitar handy so you sing "Happy trails to you" to him?

I have to say I watch some YouTube poker stuff and get caught up watching a bunch of his blow ups at the table.
