Two true tales of mine from downtown LV.

    1) As a beginner, in 2 hours, I lost $100 in each of the 4 main Fremont Street casinos,
Golden Nugget, Four Queens, Fremont and Binion's. I was devastated.
    2) This February, playing $6- six and eight only, I lost $150 in 90 minutes at The Cal.
I never would have thought that was possible.

To this day, I never play in Binion's anymore. I have never had a winning session there.

In my book I have this piece of advice, and I think it's brilliant.

The advice is: "Play in casinos in which you win"

It's one of those voo-doo things that cannot be explained but is true.....the fact is, some casinos you win more than other casinos.

It happens. You ran into a streak of bad luck. No one here is immune to that.

I assume you have win and loss limits playing $6...?

If you just keep playing without limits (money or time)...eventually the casino will whittle you down.

Why do people do things in which they lose...and continue to lose....and they continue to lose........and they continue to lose.........and they keep doing those things.

    Someone......Explain to me the rationale.

some way or another they seem to think if they do the same thing over and over and over again they just might get a different result
    Their logic is somehow illogical

..............and in fact they often do, when involved with a random activity.

Playing exactly the same way on both occasions, I turned $300 into $10,450 in 45 minutes, and have played through $300 without a single winning bet.

Have done the latter more than once, but do not recall if I kept out only the Come or Pass on the continuous losers, or if I had also tried out the Place bet.

    At any rate, NOTHING worked.

    Definition of random:

Doing the same thing over and over, and getting different results.

I think it was 777 that said ,to win we have to have those big wins to offset all those small losses
$10, 450 can offset a bunch great win

that is true to a point however if you also include the REST of the definition it says
"Done without any plan or system" , much as in random players throwing dice
"SHAKE & SHOOT" that is truly random

At our local casino the other day, I was enjoying some father/son time at the tables. It was not going well. Shooter was stick left working on a point 9, when a disheveled guy approached with a bunch of crumpled small bills & bought in between shooter & stickman. I didn’t even know there was a spot there – but there he was.

So I says, “now lookee here boy, I’ve been playin this here craps game a long time, ya see. Watch carefully what happens.” The shooter seemed undisturbed by the intrusion, so we played on. Rumpelstiltskin proceeds to put a stack of reds on the field. Ah-ha I say, “Watch carefully son, this won’t take long. That’s the Worst bet you can make.” He loses. Ha-ha! Undeterred, he puts the rest of his vast net worth on the same bet, again. He wins. He ups the ante. He wins again. His estate is in the black.

I’m not liking what I see one bit. It’s challenging what I believe & what I believe has clouded all judgement about what is happening - right in front of my eyes. Everyone knows that the field's a bad bet. So I start rooting against this man I do not know, have never met, but now detest.

Maybe he’s a good guy. Maybe I should’ve followed his example. But alas, my perception is cloudier than Barney's bath water. I would rather fry bacon in the nude on prime time TV, before I would lift a single red chip to the field. And before I can say, “Ouch that fry spatter’s smarts”, Rumple is playing with greens & on a craps, yoh, outside number streak. He’s up $300 & en fuego. I should be rooting for the guy not fuming with contempt. Oh the shame; the inhumanity. Who can stop this madness?

Isn’t this how wars get started? Faced with such a threat I have 2 choices; elimination, or tolerance. I could kill him, or accept that my thinking is too rigid. Can you guess which is preferred? But lo, preferred is illogical, un-mathematical, not a sound, by-the-book approach. I'm right, damn it! And thus, such are precisely the times when I wished I’d never read a book on craps. If everyone’s special, then no one’s special, so then it makes sense that if all bets are bad, then no bets are bad. There are just those that are hitting & those that are not, period.

Rumple colors up & my son asks me, “Pa… oh fatherrrr, oh venerable wise craps guru, I ask you with deepest respect & humility..if that’s the worst bet you can make, why are we losing making the right bets & he just walked away making the wrong bets, with $500 in chips?”

"Thus the foolish rejects what he sees; not what he thinks."

I take that even further and avoid dealers that seem to be a black cat for me, especially on BlackJack where the cards are hand shuffled.

On the flip side there's a few Blackjack dealers in which I'll immediately change plans and take a seat if they're dealing a hand shuffled game.

As far as craps it's often because they refuse to acknowledge that half the game exists. They refuse to visit the dark side of the force.
