I first walk to all tables looking at: 1) min buy-in and odds, 2) the numbers of chips (green+black) each player has (understanding that players probably pocket sometimes) - basically does it look like a bunch of "poor losers,” 3) listen to comments made as your standing around or walking by such as, "cold as ice;” he's made 3 passes, etc., and 4) I'll look closer at a loud and active table to see waht's going on. Typically, it's too late for a hot roll and you've missed your chance, but I tend to go with my gut to get in and what first-hand. I'll start very conservative until the hot shooter gets the dice again; 5) if I don't find a table that looks, sounds and feels wrong - I walk. I also like to play in the early morning by myself to practice my toss, and experiement with a few strategies, or with 1-2 other players. It's a lot more relaxed and typically more fun. I also find the pre-afternoon (2-4pm) crowd to be fun and I often win and find myself staying until 5 or so before going back to the room to shower before dinner. I seldom play the dark side and tend to maximize odds, once I'm playing on the house money. I have a bankroll that I'm fully prepared to lose without ruining my day, and will walk once I'm 50% down on a session buy-in. I buy-in at $400-500 on a $15 table in order to absorb the typical ups and downs. I will not stand next to a smoker or a Don't player if I have a choice. I seldom play prop bets except the All-Tall-Small once I'm up significantly and depending on "numbers shooter.” If a shooter gets the dice and fires them all over the place on come out role - I'll stick to PL min with 1x's odds - 8-10 times these guys 7 out quick - save your money. If I roll 2 x's and it down't feel right - I'll pass the dice, but will roll again if I leave to another table or casino.....that's about it.

I hear ya Fitz, I too like to size up a table. I'll bet min 6 & 8 on some and dark side on others until I get a feel for a shooter.

A play I like is to go heavy on the inside or across then regress after a hit or 2 so my bets are paid for and working on house money.

Thanks for responding. Thought there would be more comments on this tread. It is the crap form. Clay Press the 6 & 8

Clay, My Steps to begin WINNING @ CRAPS!

    1) First, get serious about CRAPS!

    2) Yes, your First step is to get serious about Craps, contrary to the majority of Posters on this thread. If you are Serious about Craps, it will be easy to separate those here that wish to help, from the majority of other posters here, that are sarcastic in their postings.

    3) Make, or buy yourself a Practice Table & Establish your current ability to ""Control the Dice"".

    4) This can best be established by using a Dice Charting Program like Bone Tracker, or simply generating a chart of your tosses in an Excel Spread Sheet, comparing the Graphical Visualization, so obtained, with your previous shooting.

    5) Search for & watch U-tube Video's on Craps Shooting. Input whatever you think will help from these Video's.

    6) Re-evaluate your ability to ""Control the Dice"", as in (3) above with whatever new Sets & Throws you have come up with.

    Continued:
    7) If you wish, sign up for one of the many ""Seminars"" on Craps Shooting, (all for a $$$ Fee). Take whatever you think you have "Learned There" & repeat # (3) above.

    8) When you have Proven (Through Graphical Visualization) that you have mastered ""Dice Control"" keep on practicing to solidify those techniques that have yielded results as in (7) above.

    9) Now head to a Casino & Hit the Craps Tables. Recall that each Casino will likely have slightly different Dice Bounce Characteristics & your technique may not work at all Casino's.

    10) If you WIN as in (9) congratulations, you have mastered ""Dice Control"". If you loose, try another Casino, it may suite your technique better.

    Continued:

Yeah, I think SuperRick knows a guy that has a table for sale. I think he will even deliver it for you. He's been toting it around in his car for a couple of years. :)

Does anyone know of a practice table available in town to go throw for a few minutes before heading to the casino?
    Thanks

Go find a low limit table, bet the duey/ don't, hedge for $1 on boxcars,
"set" for boxcars, and try to throw 12. Sort of like renting the table, but you might hit big.this is especially "fun" on an empty table, well worth the $1 per point, just to watch the dealers reactions. :) On average you'll only have to pay about 17 cents for each point, and if your "good" you might make some money.
