Just wanted to say hello from Pittsburgh. I'm a newbie who has been learning and attempting to play craps. I'm a solo player and would love any and all advice out there. I frequent a lot of different casinos in my area. Thanks for reading :)

    Welcome to the club Meredith!

You're at the right place to learn, and there are members here from your area. You can always start by reading threads from the beginners section, and asking questions. You may get more answers than you can handle. Be careful, craps will get in your blood, especially if you have some big wins, which I'm sure you will!

    Welcome to the forum, Meredith.

There are quite a few seasoned craps players and former dealers who are regular contributors here and will be happy to provide responses to questions you might have about craps. I offer the following points for your consideration:
    • Only gamble with money that you can afford to lose. Have a loss limit before each session and stick with it.
    • Know where the dice are at all times
    • Buy in / color up during an appropriate stoppage of play (e.g., before a new shooter has been handed the dice)
    • Understand the flow of the game -- watching at the table without betting (other than perhaps 1 bet) can really help
    • Know the payoff before making any bet. Don't assume the dealer will correctly pay you (or remember to pay you) on a winning bet.
    • Make all bets before the dice have been given to the shooter
    • For place/come/DC bets, know where your chips are placed by the dealer (relative to those belonging to other bettors)
    • If you're next to the shooter, kindly move back from the table and give him/her room to throw the dice.
    • Reducing, calling off or taking down bets (where allowed) can be a very good thing to do
    • Keep an eye on your bets. When you make, press or reduce bets, verify it is done correctly by the crew
    • In college football, never root for Michigan unless the Wolverines are playing Notre Dame
There are probably additional general tips others can add. Most important (aside than the first item in the above list), have fun and good luck at the craps tables.

    Grammar edit, lol.

Thank you guys very much! I've been reading the beginners section a little bit. I have only been playing the $5 tables thus far. I want to make sure I know exactly what I'm doing and it also depends on my bank roll. I only bring what I can afford to lose and go in with the attitude that I'll lose. I do get quite a bit of funny looks as most of the time I've played, I was the only female at the table lol. I will keep reading and learning from all you guys. Again ty for the warm welcome.

Based upon what I have observed, men almost always outnumber women at craps tables, often by a considerable number. So you'll get a quizzical look from time-to-time when you step up to the craps table. Once the dice start flying, though, it's all about rolling numbers and winning money from the casino.

Over time, you'll develop your own betting preferences, identify "better" places to play craps (assuming you multiple local options), and have a better feel for when to call it quits/take a break. Enjoy the journey.

    Meredith,

Are there any of these devices by you?

    IMG_7787.JPG

If so, it's a good option for learning the game at your own pace, and you can play for less $$$ usually, and all payouts are exact to the penny. No worry about being short payed, etc. just another option to try.

    Welcome to the forum Meredith!.

My initial "tip" for you.......Tip the dealers a little something every now and then, that and the fact you are a nice looking lady, will get you more than a fair share of attention from them...and an education of the game in real time!

    Welcome, Meredith.

    Craps...you'll love it.

If you can find a bubble craps game...give it a try. Touch screen. Plays with the exact same probabilities as the live table. Lower minimums usually.

Hi Meredith, Welcome to the forum. This is a great forum to learn about craps. There are many different topics and stories to read about and lots of interesting members here. Its nice to see a beautiful girl interested in playing craps. Once you learn all the options available to you in this game, I'm sure you will find the game very exciting. The expression on your photo looks as though you are saying.. "Hey everybody.. I'm about to throw a couple 7's on this come out roll..!" Lol.

Oh yeah, I forgot to give you a tip.. When the stickman gives you the Dice to choose, pick them all up with one hand. Then toss them down the table at once and tell him you want the two that add up to seven!.. Hehe..

LOL I wish id be able to throw a bunch of 7s on the come out. That would make my day. Ive been reading alot of posts and its starting to come together. Wish I could come up with a good strategy and be able to stick with it. My 1st time playing i always played min on PL with 2x odds and placed the 6/8. I tried that at 2 diff casinos. 1 I faired alright at (my 1st time ever playing) and the 2nd i was out in an hour. So im like well hmmm. So now im back to studying and reading.... And you guys are very sweet. Thanks :)

Hi Meredith. Here are some more tips.. You can make place bets without having to be on the Pass line. So in other words, you can wait until after the shooter has established a point and just go right up on placing the 6,8 or 5,9 etc. The advantage of doing this is that you are not contracted into any specific number, especially if the shooter rolls a 4 or 10 on the come out roll. After your chosen place numbers have hit a few times, you have the option to 'take down' or 'turn off' your place bets. The disadvantage of not putting a Pass line bet is that if the shooter rolls a few 7s on the come out then you miss out on these. Also, you miss out on the opportunity to take any odds on the shooters point number. But, if you just want to be in the game for a few rolls, its something to consider. Here's another tip.. Don't be afraid to bet the Don't Pass line. If a table is getting cold, it might payoff to make this bet instead of betting on the Pass line. Here's another tip.. you can make a Don't Pass line bet and then place numbers after the shooter has established a point. After your place bet numbers have hit a few times, take them down and wait for the seven to come and make some money! (assuming that the shooter does not make the point). If you do this, its best to make equal amounts of bets on the Don't Pass and the place bets. For example, figure out ahead of time how many place numbers you will be betting. If the table minimum is $5 and you want to make 2 place bets, then put $10 on the Don't Pass line. After the point has been established, make your two place bets for $5 each. After your place bet numbers have hit a few times then take them down and wait for the seven to come.. If the shooter makes the point before the seven, you break even. If the seven comes before the

If the seven comes before the point, you win the Don't Pass line plus the place bets that you had made earlier! Its an interesting system to use, especially if you are playing alone at the table.

@Mr.Dice When ur talking about the don't pass line and I want to place bets say on the 4/10, would I just tell the dealer to place $xx On the 4 and 10? And that wouldn't be the same as if I was using the pass line? I kind of like that strategy if the table is cold

Oh I got it. I'd be taking them down do if have racked up those winnings and if a 7 was rolled I'd win the don't pass, plus I'd have winnings from earlier and then I'd lose the place bets that are current. I got it haha

Hi Meredith, after the place bets hit, take them down so you don't lose them when you win on the Don't Pass. As to the length of time that you wish to leave them in play, that is up to your own quest for adventure.. I have used this system a few times having all the numbers placed across and an equal amount on the Don't Pass with a point of 4. I made this crazy bet while I was shooting the dice too. I left everything in play for maybe 5 rolls, then gradually started taking down the place bets starting with 10, 9, 5, 6, and finally 8. Then after that I Layed the 4 and pretty soon the seven came.. I won all the place bets and the Don't Pass as well. That was fun. I was using the Hardway set with the dice the whole time except when I Layed the 4, I set them for the seven or just throw them randomly. Laying a number is another option you can do on the craps table. Generally people Lay the 4 or 10. You can walk up at any given time at a craps table and ask the dealer to Lay the 4 or 10. When the seven comes, You Win! I'm heading up to Atlantic City pretty soon.. I want to go for a walk on the Boardwalk and breath in some fresh ocean air..
