Was going to try betting a $100 iron cross ($25-5 $30-6&8 and $15 field) after the come out for 3 rolls and then take it down. Would it be a good idea or worth it to hop the 7's for a little to lessen the blow if the 7 came up on any of those rolls?

    Thanks

I tried the iron cross. It's as good a way as any to donate to a casino. There are some good threads here on the iron cross. Try this one,

Problem I have with the iron cross is that it will eat into your winnings because of the frequency of 5,6, and 8s.

To overcome this, once you are up 2-4 units on the point numbers and you bet a single unit on the field you will not lose as much on those hits and still feel covered.

After a point is set with $5 on pass line put $15 on the 5, $18 on 6 & 8, and $10 on the field. You have $66 on the table, 7 tosses without a 7 you are at lease $4 ahead. Do not place the field on a come out roll. A 5,6, or 8 gives $21 $10 goes to replace the lost on the field, $11 goes in the rack. If you luck out and can get a 2 or a 12, you are getting ahead faster. My last game in Las Vegas I won $400 using this way of playing craps.

    Well,
I typically bet a 3:1 ratio from the base bet on the Field, such as a $10 field bet and $30 each on the (5,6,8 for a total of $100. Two rolls max then take it all down and wait for the seven-out and bet on the next shooter.

Hedging by hopping the sevens kills your wins, and hedging with the DP or DC can become comical as the universe dark sense of humor will seem to knock off your hedges and put you in the hurt locker.

However, the odds of winning this bet is in your favor with a roughly 70% win ratio. You will win approximate either $20 or $70 per shooter, or lose $100. It will take 2 to 5 rolls to recover from a loss.

Typically, if I lose an Iron Cross bet spread, I will wait a few shooters before venturing out with bet again.

I recommend to study the Craps survival table so you can see why you have a good shot at winning this bet.

You are probably better off just using your place bets. Take at least two $35 hits (if you manage to get them) before pressing.

In my experience, the Iron Cross is like slow, painful death, at least for the players who never press, never change their bet size. If I want to see my BR erode slowly, I'll wash it hot water.

Actually, cub-guy, after really reading your initial post, your strategy is pretty sound, but I think you'll need to leave your bets at risk at least one more roll, thus recouping your total losses when the shooter rolls a "point-7", which will happen every six shooters on average. I would have to agree with Koko about shining the field on. Just bet Place bets and develop a strategy from there. And don't turn the 3-way 7 as an integral component of your strategy. That alone will erode your BR.
