Tell her that you're going with a buddy that she can trust, and you're all set.

Reno to Vegas is about 6.5 hours.
Halfway point would be about Tonapah...old mining town. Not sure on quality lodging there but I think they have a casino/hotel. It should be ok.

It's been a long time since I've been in Reno. Some have reported it has been in decline. Others might advise on a decent place to stay.

Reno is a shithole and not worth all that trouble

... There are plenty of empty seats on Vegas to Reno flights and Denver to Reno flights

    Liman,
Just fly to Las Vegas and skip Reno.

I found the Craps play in Reno similar to that of what you find in the Downtown Las Vegas. Low limits and they sweat the game. You will see signs at some Reno casino tables that prohibit dice setting and lobbing.

Reno comps better for slot play. If you are a Video Poker expert, where you know the strategies perfectly and can put in long hours of play, you can score yourself rooms and meals far easier in Reno than in Las Vegas.

Here is a list of Craps in Reno

Whats this stay away from reno stuff???? How bad can it be?? Tahoe alone is worth the drive but the time of year Liman is talking could be snowy. Had a friend of mine went to Reno on vaca and ended up staying for two years. Worked waiting tables and had a blast. Probably banged every guy she met (good looking slut) as long as they said she was pretty. Narcissistic bitch.

    Liman -

There are NO direct flights to Reno -

We tried to do that from EWK approx. 10 + / - years ago -

You have to change planes in Vegas in order to get to Reno -

MOST , if not ALL , of the smaller Mom and Pop casinos that made Reno what it was -

Are now long gone - primarily due to the economic downturn -

Driving from Vegas to Reno is 5+ hours each way at best !

Best bet is to change planes in Vegas, and do Reno as an interim trip !

    NY > Vegas > Reno > Vegas > NY !

However, IF you do insist on driving from Vegas to Reno -

You MUST make a side trip to Lake Tahoe !

You are TOO close to let that experience escape you !

    $...eE..$

Yeah arse wipes...although you're right about it being a black hole, nowadays, I'd really like to meet up with my man Liman. If you decide to make the trip, it's more like an 8 hour run from here to the LV city limits. For accommodations, I'd recommend the Peppermill south of downtown, or the El Dorado which is right in the middle of the downtown corridor. If you are breaking up the drive, Tonapah is close to halfway and is semi interesting if you're thing is old mining towns. Sadly, Reno is a mere shell of it's onetime glory. It was Mecca for casino style wagering and cheap, legal divorces.. Between 1938 and about '50, it's reputation as the center of a legitimate gambling industry, eclipsing LV for a coup[e more years after Bugsy S.failed so miserably trying to make the Flamingo the industry standard. When I first arrived here in '71 it was still jumping, but it catered to a less well heeled clientele, as a rule. There never was a lot of glitz, it was a spiffed up cowtown, but most operators were close to the Benny Binion business model..." give ;em a good gamble, a decent drink and a good inexpensive steak", and the world can be your oyster. An unfortunate series of devastating events, weren't handled right by the operators or their butt buddies in City Hall, the long term planning for the city was non existent, at least concerning the gambling racket. The downtown is a eyesore of closed businesses, it's something of a high crime zone...I've had a real good run during the 45 years that I called it my hometown...I just finally said f**k it last week and decided to retire in 90 days then head for my REAL hometown up in ORE. I'm really ready to bust a move out of this shit hole, at last. And DO check out Tahoe while you're here.:cool:

I guess one trip to reno will cure my curiosity, afterall, if I wanted to visit a shithole I could go to Atlantic City for a couple of days.
    gotta go once.
Don't think lake Tahoe is happening this trip as I have intentions of meeting friends who live out in desert up there.

Oh, I would definitely go if you want to satisfy your curiosity.
    $2-$3 bubble...?

    Sunset, GVR, Redrock.

I'm not sure on the 5x odds though. Might only be 2x.

GVR is nice. I think it's much better than Sunset. A real resort style casino hotel. You'll enjoy it. The District next door is also nice for dining and shopping.
