A good friend and reliable reporter(not a drinker) files the following report:

" I've been playing a lot of craps but they have a lot of special rules here. You can't drop the dice on the table in front of you before you throw or change the number on the dice before you throw. You also can't shake your hand when you throw. Lots of special rules here, maybe that's the reason that they only have usually one table going and it isn't usually full. "

He also reported they don't have stools at the table(unlike Manila), the hotel is in fact five star(it should be at $375.usd a night) and the buffets are fabulous.

I told him I'd complain to the Gaming Commission or whatever they call it in Singapore as well as file a formal complaint with Mr. Adelson in his Las Vegas office. Can you imagine a joint like Marina Bay Sands sweating the money on a craps table? Unreal. I as you have figured out, could not justify the room rate and didn't want to stay off property. Sure, I can afford it but it still made no sense. I've never ever paid more than $200.usd a night for a hotel room no matter the "stars".

Their house, their rules. If what your friend has stated are indeed house rules, there probably isn't much one can do other than take their gaming business to another casino.

Craps revenue is probably an afterthought on the P&L of casinos in that part of the world. It's all about Banker/Player bets.

As far as hotel room pricing, what you're willing to pay is only part of the equation. What rate the hotel thinks it can get from a customer -- any customer -- also comes into play. As long as the hotel thinks it can get a higher price for a room and sufficient time remains until the desired reservation date(s), it doesn't necessarily have to lower the price for a specific customer absent unique circumstances (e.g., high roller, highly valued customer, etc.). That you are only willing to pay so much for a hotel room is your decision, but it will undoubtedly limit your room selection & availability at some hotels.

So what was the "sad" part, the $375 rooms? The way you led-in to the story I thought there would be at least one dead body.

    375 a night?

I just looked over a place on a lake in nowhere Michigan, in the middle of the wilderness, out there, nothing around, Im going to visit friends, the room rate for weekday was 305 plus fees and taxes which brought it up to around 375.
I thought the woman on the phone was on drugs. I hung up.

Im curious, when playing in non English speaking countries, do they have dealers or pit bosses that speak English?

Singapore, as a former British Colony, probably has English as a second language, if not first.

Keep in mind, I wasn't in Singapore myself. In Manila, the dealers and box and pit personnel speak Filipino English, which is basically suffice unless of course you want have an intelligent conversation. In Phnom Penh, there aren't any craps tables and for the most part, at Black Jack, Roulette and Baccarat and the sports book you can get by but again, not engage in conversation. In Phnom Penh (www.nagaworld.com) the people are very friendly towards Americans as don't get many. The few Europeans are generally rude and dressed like slobs. Chinese generally have no interest in interaction outside their "race" or I guess it's nationality, not "race". I find this with Chinese tourists in Thailand as well. Filipino's are always as most know, looking for an angle to steal from you. Self wind-up dolls on sale at the novelty shops..wind them up and they run around the room and steal...

The "sad" part is learning about the sweating of the money via the "rules" at said craps table(only one BTW) and the fact they can charge this much for a granted..nice room...and there are no last minute discounts on offer. A few promotions like $20.usd off if you book with the property...

Is it sweating the money or keeping the game moving? I've seen some mechanical tossers...and for flunks sake, some of them can take forever to toss the damn dice. Not all are slow...but some go thru so many gyrations, pick up, drop, pick up, drop, twist, turn, set, lean on rail, pinch, pick up, and toss. I can see where dealers are saying to themselves "today, man"!

    Maybe proactive instead of reactive?

Nok Tang probably never heard of Jose Parica, Efren Reyes, or Fransisco Bustamante. They are all Champion Philippine Pool Players & some of the most friendly & honest people you'll ever meet!

Never had the pleasure of meeting such talented pool players. I always enjoyed watching Efren Reyes shoot pool. I posted a video of his famous "Z" shot a few weeks ago.

Several of Nok Tang's comments in post #8 are pathetic, inexcusable, and flat-out wrong. There are good & bad, friendly & unfriendly, hard-working & lazy, honest & corrupt, smart & challenged, people from all nationalities & ethnicities. To stereotype a nationality and/or ethnicity on the basis of meeting a few people from that country and/or racial/cultural/religious group is the epitome of stupidity.

It's his opinion, that's all. Opinions are niether right or wrong, they are opinions, that's all. One does not have to make excuses for their opinion, it is something that is uniquely "you" and nobody can take it away from you, NOT EVEN TDVEGAS. I thought it was all kind of "cute".

I'm pretty sure the casino can set any rules it want to at the craps table, when it comes the the players handling of the dice. The absents of "stools" at the table though, should be grounds for immediate, revocation, of their gaming license. What kind of "joint" are they runnin over there? :)

I've played there before. The table maximums are S$50,000 and minimum is S$10, so they are probably protecting themselves from the whales. The pit bosses do speak English there as I would ask the dealers questions and they would always turn and ask the pit boss who would respond. Both casinos there are fun places to play craps.
