Will be going to visit friends in Poconos in March. Any recommendations of casinos in that area or between that area and middle NY State

Mount Airy is in Mount Pocono.

    It's a stand alone casino/hotel with a golf course.

3 Craps tables open at $5 move to $10 later on Friday, Sat, Sun. Althought when I was last there I left at 7pm and the tables were all still $5. 3X4X5X odds. Don't know any of the 'DI characteristics' of the tables. They seem to be 'short'; is 10ft possible? If not then they are 12 feet.

Do a search on 'Mount Airy' there is lots of write ups here on the forum.

Consider Mohegan Sun in Wilkes Barre. Similar to Mount Airy in minimums & odds. 2 tables 1 smoking, 1 non. ATS, but no hoping. The buffet is the worst, but Ruth Chris is there & or Wolfgang Puch's Express isn't bad.

The thing I like about MS Pocono Downs is that it is frequented by some regular local DIs & I mean shooters with that glazed look, who throw from the zone on a regular basis & hold the dice for an hour. Under those conditions, you can't help but have a good time with your amigos.
    Enjoy

Mohegan sun was more tolerable smoke wise than mt airy couple weeks ago.
not sure about the buffet sucking at Mohegan, Id say average casino buffet for the price. mt airy buffet was one of the worst we ever had, no one in there at 6:15 at night. we knew why.
I find much better luck on Mohegan sun tables, seems more action, crews are good in both.
if you go to Mohegan sun in wilkes barre, you can stay less than a mile away in Microtel, for under 75 bucks a night, that includes free continental breakfast. If you are in middle ny state,i reco trying out dellago in waterloo off of the thruway. wonderful casino, new hotel, good food, good dealers, pleasant, and smoke free.

we ate at ruth chris once, didn't find it anything special but super expensive, I believe we also went to ruth crhis in Bensalem near parx casino, I have to think hard about that one, as I believe that was the city, and found it the same, ok, nothing wrong, but not worth the money.
wolfgang express, we love the salad and margarita pizza for lunch when we are there for an extended stay.

I ate at wolfgang in vegas in mgm? when seeing a show, maybe 2 glasses of wine with dinner, no one of us drink except my daughter, 4 of us, almost 500 bucks. what happened to cheap dining in vegas/

I remember the chef came out and asked me how I enjoyed the flatiron steak, and to be honest, it was the best steak I ever ate. and I told him so, he chatted with us where you from, that kind of stuff, recommended some desserts, went to next table. guess he wasn't busy.

thanks for info---especially alternate stay locations. Many casinos---as casino---seem to be hitting hard times yet they still keep room charges high. guess that is where they hope to make money

Thanks again to all for their tips. We stayed at Microtel and it was a good room and much less expensive. I played at both Mt. Airy and Mohegan and liked the Mohegan much more. Plus on Sunday wife and I were not hungry but needed to eat so we went to "Ds" diner and had a great burger !!

d's diner, did you feel like you stepped into 1973? food is decent, good prices, decent service.

how did you like Microtel? location is great, I just find the rooms tiny, so I guess that's why its called Microtel, as in small hotel rooms.

further south down the main drag there is a good Italian restaurant, cant recall the name right now, its down near the shopping area. good prices, good food. good service.
