On Wizard of odds Football Home Underdogs is around .04 % House Edge and NBA Away Favorites are .04 % as well, you get a good handicapped team with an advantage and the Player edge could be in the 5%

Sports betting does offer some unusual opportunities, but how does a player determine when he's getting a, " good handicapped team with an advantage"?

I have been doing it for a long time and it pans out. You have to look for the right stats and odds. Most handicappers are stupid, I do not know how they keep going. Also don't tell me how to do something and give advice to me on something when I already have shown how to do it. It just takes the convo around in circles.

I have never placed a bet in a sports book and am therefore completely out of my element on this one. Be that as it may, though, it is my understanding the handicappers' main goal is to set the line so the betting is split evenly between the two teams.

Excuse me not the handicappers the Oddsmakers, The Handicappers are the players . I meant the stupid ones are the Odds Makers. There are alot of crazy lines you can exploit.

Allow me to clarify if you (or anyone else) is not fully on board. There are handicappers on both sides of the fence. The handicappers/oddsmakers from the sports books who set the lines in an attempt to divide the betting public and get an even amount of action on both teams, thus gaining the vig, or juice regardless of who wins. In fact, they couldn't give a rat's arse what the outcome is.

Then there are the handicappers (or cappers) / players, who use statistics, trends, past performances, the weather, let down factors and a whole range of other information to cap the games themselves. They then compare their handicaps to the oddsmakers handicaps and look for a variance (within their tolerance level) on a game and look to exploit that.

Now you are armed with this information, go ahead and place your first sports betting wager via a sports book but don't forget to do your homework first.

Glad to hear it. It was primarily an introductory post about spread betting but I'll defer to you for more comprehensive and complex matters.

Up front, many thanks for your time taken to explain some of the basics. In return, permit me to display my ignorance on this subject.

Arbitrage. I can't remember a serious conversation on sports betting I have had with anyone where that word did not come up. What intrigues me about the technique, which I will admit I have only a rudimentary knowledge of, is that the bettor does not need to know diddley about the teams he/she is betting on, only who is offering what odds on them.

Pick 5 upcoming sporting events and give us your picks. Could be fun to see how well you do.

If you're going to pick the moneyline and not the spread...please specify amount wagered.

In college football, bet on an SEC team when it plays a non-conference opponent. Other than Vanderbilt or Florida, classwork is optional for football players at other SEC schools. There's your advantage (along with better recruits, coaches, facilities...).

Cannot make a sample out of 5 teams you just missed a good run and 20 plus cent teams are not playing serious competitors.

How do we know if a "home underdog" has handicapped the stats?

You CAN make a sample out of 5 games, and that would be a start. What do you want, to tell us your "picks" after the game is over? :)

Ah jeez, ok, pick 10, pick 20, pick 50. Whatever you want.

It's a fun little exercise to see how you do..much like when we all submit our Derby picks. No one is going to steal or piggy back your picks. Just want to see how good you actually are. After it's over, you get props...or not.

As long as you pick the game before the game is played.

Tell me what sport you'd like to go with and I'll even pick up and post the spread sheet here. Any day, any sport. I assume you have a specialty and aren't handicapping everything from car racing to baseball to women's basketball.
