We stopped by Vicksburg & Natchez years ago on our way back from Biloxi. A lot of Civil War history in those areas, as the campaign/siege of Vicksburg was crucial to the Union's efforts to defeat the Confederates.

Vicksburg National Military Park (National Park Service) -- when you're atop the hill looking down over the Mississippi River, you can see why the town was so important. Worth the visit.

    USS Cairo Gunboat and Museum

Back when we visited the area in 2011, Isle of Capri had a riverboat in Natchez. That casino closed in 2015. Today, Magnolia Bluffs Casino Hotel operates, with the former hotel at Isle of Capri serving as the Magnolia Bluffs Hotel. If you stop by, please pick up a couple of $1 chips for me, lol.

Vicksburg had 4 casinos when we visited: Ameristar Casino Hotel, DiamondJacks Casino, Rainbow Hotel Casino and Riverwalk Casino Hotel. I think there are still 4 but names have changed on some.

Son, you better get the atlas, cause highway 61, revisited, does hug the MS river coast, but ends up in NOLA. Google maps, check to make sure!

And the real DeMango actually drove both roads as well as stage left ending up in Philadelphia to visit the Indians.

If it's a river, it is called a "BANK" not a "COAST". And you ain't DeMango.

thanx random, I was going to ask you if any of the casinos spark interest for a chip.
when we get to Vicksburg, not sure if we are staying long enough to visit sites, it might just be a rest stop for the night, and a little action in the casino.
If Ameristar will do something for me with the room when I give them my players number(if Ameristar in Indiana is same company), we will stay there, otherwise I think riverwalk as long as they have a room and prices are reasonable.
I go into all these out of the way casinos with low expectations as far as hotel rooms, so anything decent at a good price(up to 120 a night) will make us happy.
Don't know if any of these casinos have bubbles, don't know what mins are at tables, don't know what kind of selection of machines they have for my wife, (although she will play almost anywhere), and don't know what food services they offer, or quality of food services.
We like to gamble, so choosing casino hotels and casinos are part of gambling. sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.
we aren't going to visit every single casino in every town, especially Mississippi, as it seems they are all over the place.

as with most casino hotels when we travel, since we don't have advance reservations, we will choose two hotels, like gold strike and the one next to it, whichever one offers us the best deal is most likely where we will end up. no more than a couple of nights so even if the hotel is outdated and rundown, my wife can handle it for one or two nights. Old doesn't bother me, dirty, broken stuff bothers me.
The good thing is if I don't like the tables where I am, theres always another one within a few miles over in places like tunica and Biloxi.
Biloxi, beau rivage, my wife looked over the website and made that decision.
Im hoping if my knee is up to it, maybe go out on the gulf for a dinner cruise one night, another night dining outdoors on the ocean.
    gambling is gambling,
when Im on my way there or there I will see if anyone from here wants to meet up to play one day or night.

    In New Jersey they say
"You are really a piece of shit"
On the West coast of the Mississippi river they say
"You really are a piece of shit"
In polite society they don't say such things.
