Didn't have to "google" anything. The part about the "Boer War" was a story from golf lore, that I borrowed. That guy was a three time "Open" champion, and quite an enthusiastic bagpiper also. He wasn't, Australian, but then, neither were the two "Night Attack's" that we've known.

I was actually referring to W. C. Fields. I thought I heard him say, "if I had my choice I'd rather be in Philadelphia," but on second thought I now remember a cartoon W. C. saying that.

    From Wikiquote

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    W. C. Fields

    W. C. Fields (29 January 1880 – 25 December 1946), born William Claude Dukenfield, was an American Actor and Comedian.

    Quotes[edit]
    • Here lies W. C. Fields. I would rather be living in Philadelphia.
      • This was an epitaph Fields proposed for himself in a 1925 article in Vanity Fair. It refers to his long standing jokes about Philadelphia (his actual birthplace), and the grave being one place he might actually not prefer to be. This is often repeated as "On the whole, I'd rather be in Philadelphia.", or "All things considered, I'd rather be in Philadelphia." which he might have stated at other times. It has also sometimes been distorted into a final dig at Philadelphia: "Better here than in Philadelphia." Fields' actual tomb at Forest Lawn in Glendale, California simply reads "W. C. Fields 1880–1946".

What's YOUR strategy on the ATS bet?

Easy ~ Simply DO NOT BET IT @ CASINO's that extract 20+%, i.e. those that pay the RIP-OFF Odds of 150 for ALL & 30 for Small or Tall!!!

But Eagleeye, even with those shitty odds, if a guy plays a $1 parlay on the "ALL" and hits it three times, in a row, he would have over $3 million, which would be considered a decent cashout for most, on the forum. :) If you can find a 174/1 table, the same feat, would pay over $5 million. So, in conclusion, all morons, should always bet, the ATS, no matter what the odds are. After all, it's "only money." :D

    vonduck,

You said it correctly, i.e. ""all morons, should always bet, the ATS, no matter what the odds are. After all, it's "only money.""

At times it is as if I was in a small aircraft with turbulence and puking my stomach out over Las Vegas.

There is no strategy for ATS. You make the wagers and be patient.

Although if the 12 and 2 are hit early... things may look up.

I was shooting with the ATS covered. Kept repeating numbers but never could hit the 2 or 12. I even began tossing chips on the 2 and 12 expecting to 'chuck one' for the Gipper. It never happened. Made money on this roll... but the big prize was evasive.

Now the DI's would say I should not be a Chucker, but practice sets to toss a 2 or a 12. Had there been a DI at the table... I would have passed the dice to my left until it got into their hands and could have been counting the winnings.

    Yeah... right.

I like High Pay, High Risk, Low Cost side wagers. When the ATS is covered... you can hear the table across the Casino Floor.

The ATS bet is all luck but still a good bet if you look at it at the high pay-out on it. The bet can be won on any shooter so don't think that you are special if you hit it. Just take the money and run and don't look back!

Any time I make a profit at the Craps Table, Keno or Video Poker... the only thing the Casino will see is my 'backside' going out their door.

Since my memory is short... I come back and give some, none or all back on following visits. I do not do this to supplement my fixed income, which varies as much as some of the stories on this Forum.

If we were all hurting the Casino... there would be a percentage of Players that are not being truthful.

Myself... I never lose at a Casino. It is misallocated. Great prospects, lousy timing.

The 7% game is no bargain either. Your playing a bet that loses 97+% of the time. You can expect some very long dry spells. Put a dollar on it , parlay it three times, and walk with the $27k. If you can do that 2-3 times a year, you should be able to quit that damned JOB!!!!

I know it's "against the odds", and the wrath of all you experts will come down on me, but I still love this bet! Recently spent some time at the Golden Nugget in AC, rolled the dice maybe a dozen times and bet $5 across the top on the ATS each time. Hit the small 3 times and just missed the all those 3 times by 1 number, 1 number, and 2 numbers. So, made my $$$ at 35 :1 on the small and get some major excitement playing the all. Definitely worth it! . The crew there is excellent!

I have long contended that a successful session is one that made the potential thrill of victory equal to or greater than the agony of defeat regardless of how one measures them. In the instance you cite that thrill was actually realized, but even had it not been I have to assume you would have obtained adequate compensation from the excitement the bet generated. No wrath will be forthcoming from me.

    If you’re getting 35 to1, that’s a good thing. Just don’t play 30-1, increases the ha from 7 to 20% against you.

What's good about 7% H/E, and a bet you will lose 97+% of the time?:cool:

Was fun when it had a $1.00 minimum...
At $5.00 minimum it eats into the session budget.
total minimum bet $3.00 vs $15.00
i did roll the all tall the other day with 1 person on it....

As an aspiring di, you must prove to yourself you have the capability to roll horn numbers disproportionately to average. If I don’t, I don’t bet it especially at lower payouts. Folks talk about fun.....no fun losing that bet.

one thing I track are sixes. If I’m rolling a lot of 6-x’s, I may bet just the tall.

Is the wager still holding at the 175-1 and 35-1 odds anywhere? Supermajority of the time I've seen it out here....it's been reduced to 150 and 30, which drastically cranks up the vig.

Here in Biloxi the way to blunt the di wannabe crowd is to lower payouts, make segments $5 minimum and eliminate the bets entirely. One casino , Scarlet Pearl, eliminated the bets on the small tub, but kept it, full payout, on their regular table. Watched it hit a few days ago, all, with no one on it. Tough losing $15 for each come out seven.
