I challenged the Brain Trust, with this question & they FAILED to come up with the CORRECT Answer, on the "biased dice question" Thread here, Post # 675, on page # 34.

I thought it was important enough to have it's own Thread, SO HERE IT IS.

""TDV & all of the Faulty Logician's out there, I asked you all to think about it for more than a second! Guess none of you did.

I'll not waste any more of my time trying to right you guys.

Lastly, I'll ask all of the Faulty Logician's here one last question.

That Question is: ""Why do Casino Dice Always have Opposite Sides of a Die ADD to 7"

Let's see who the first one to post the correct answer will be?

    eagleeye2""

I will acknowledge the CORRECT ANSWER, when it is posted.

Ok, I'll bite. It's so the number of pips on any axis is always consistent. If you had the 5 and 6 opposed it would be 11 pips on 1 axis. If the 1 and 2 opposed it would be only 3 pips total on that axis.

Sorry, why are we asking this?

Don't even bother. He's trolling the board. There is no answer to his liking so he tries to keep sending you out on a snipe hunt/wild goose chase.

    TDV,

I am NOT trolling, as the Brain Trust implies!

Yes, there is BUT ONE Correct Answer, & having a closed mind like TDV will never get one there!

Because out of all of the combinations it is the only way to ensure you only get one unique number from 1 to 6 on an die outcome.

The chirality of a cube can be arranged one of two ways, hence the difference between American and Asian dice. The difference here is just a 1 2 3 vs. a 1 3 2 top, facing, right face arrangement.

Has nothing to do with opposite faces adding to seven.

Why do they? It is by design. Six faces must show six different spot designs Eleven specific outcomes are possible with variable and symmetrical relationship. The answer to your question is "because that's the way we want them.", with the understanding they could be designed differently, if desired.

    Onautopilot,

There is generally only ONE CORRECT answer for any Problem, all other answers may be some form of compromise to that one Correct Answer.

    Kokomojoe4,

You are warm with that answer, all other answers are rather cold.

Keep on thinking, that Correct Answer is out there.

I cleared my mind for a second and I would say your Linaway's son. But if your profile is correct that would make Linaway about 90 and I don't think he is quite there yet. Anyways the opposing side of the dice add up to seven because its an alien thing. I'm sure Dave has that angle covered.

    I disagree with eagleeye2. I would pick Liman's hose over Koko's.

The design as a whole is to provide a randomly determined integer from one to six, each of those values being equally likely to militate against concerns that the faces of dice cause a small bias. For a single roll of a fair s-sided die, the probability of rolling each value is exactly 1/s-an of a discrete uniform distribution. For n multiple rolls, with a s-sided die the possibility space is equal to sn. So, for n rolls of an s-sided die the probability of any result is 1/sn. As the number of dice increases, the distribution of the sum of all numbers tends to normal distribution by the central limit theorem.

OK times up you dumb asses. The correct answer is: in order to get the illusion of fairness. It's a function of the center of gravity of the die to ensure the appearance of randomness in the die. A die has to have an exact center. From that center to each surface which are six, have to be equally balanced. Each opposite sides, which are two, delivers seven dimples in total in order to make the dice purely balanced in order to make it tumble thus making a fair game.
