As i said in another thread I am a minimum better come out roll 5 on pass line 1 on craps I build on this if it hits most times if it don’t I will not even take odds on my pass line bet. That being said at my last craps table visit the guy in front of me and myself both had really good rolls several points between us,and I turned 40bucks into 150. Now the guy on the other side of me 7 out rite away and cashed in close to a grand on the previous 2 rolls I noticed he kept up a 10 dollar field bet at all times and had abut 20 or 30 on the 5,6,8 when doing this . Is this a winning strategy
I don’t know exactly what the values are on the 5 place bet, 6 place bet or 8 place bet. However, we could say 20 on the 5 , and 30 on the 6 and 8 a piece. If a five is thrown you would win 18 dollars. If a 6 or 8 is thrown you would win 25 dollars. If a 2,3,4,9,10,11, or 12 is thrown, you would win 10 dollars or more depending on the 2 and 12 payouts. The only number that you lose money on is the seven. However, if someone just places the across or inside, the seven is the only number that wipes that person out as well. I’ve never used this system. I do think their is a negative. That being the field bet is nice because you get paid out on every number thrown, however it minimizes wins on your place bets. By minimizing wins on place bets, leaves you less money to press with, and ultimately less profiting off of your place bets. 3 of the 4 most common numbers thrown besides the seven, are placed in this strategy. Those being the 5, 6, and 8. Their is 14 ways to hit a place bet, and 16 ways to hit the field bet. I suppose this doesn’t sound like a bad way of playing. Their is definately worse ways. I think if someone had a minimal win goal this could be a good way of playing. Especially if pressing wasn’t an option. I like to press my place bets as high as i can once i get my initial investment back. Pressing place bets is where i believe big money can be made. So for me, i wouldn’t try this. But winning strategy? I dont see why it couldn’t win
If the field only pays 2:1 for 2 and 12 the vig is about 5.6%. However, if you can find a table that pays 3:1 for 12 in the field then the vig is almost cut in half to 2.8%.
I often play the field if it pays 3:1 for 12. The system you are talking about is the Iron Cross or umbrella. Every roll wins except 7. This is not a bad system on a hot table that pays 3:1 in the field but this is how I would play it….
—Make sure you get 3:1 for 12 in the field. —Place 5, 6 and 8 for 2 or more units. Also place the 9 but for less. (I always bet inside) —Bet less in the field. I usually make my field bet the same as the 9. Always bet more on the 5, 6, 8. —Bet $1 on the hard 6 and 8 for each unit you place (this will give you a little hedge). So if you have $12 6&8 then you bet $2 hard 6&8. —If you are winning then press your bets. I press 5,6,8 and the hard ways… then after a hit or two then I press the field and the 9. Always bet more on 5,6,8.
So here’s what my bet may look like… 15$5, 18$6, 18$8, 2$ hard 6&8, 5$9 and 5$ in the field. This may do better than $66 inside especially if your hitting a lot of outside numbers… plus if the 12 shows a few times, then sweet.

Huh? Place bets on the 5 and 9 are exactly the same!

Alan I place the 9 for less because it also pays in the field. For me, placing the 9 is optional for the iron cross but I always like to play inside numbers. Instead of 66$ inside (inside is my usual play), i just break down the 9 and make it 5$, then put 5 in the field and 2 or 3$ hard 6&8 so I still have the same amount of money in play. I do this when a lot of the other numbers (2,3,4,10,11,12) are being rolled.

Good Morning, I was part of the group back in 1995 with you and crew at the other site. Glad you are still playing. I have been non active for 13 years…Kids & Family. I have time to play and had a couple of questions. I hope I am not imposing. Is the Wincraps 5.1 the way to go for systems practice? I have a Strategy that I would like to Auto Play. Is it easy to set Auto Play on Wincraps? I am very happy you are around still! Bill

Hi, Bill! Wow, lot o’water under the bridge, eh? Unfortunately, rec.gambling.craps pretty much died the last couple of years.
I highly recommend WinCraps 5.1 for simulation or just play. BTW, Steen is working on a new version, WinCraps Pro, which will allow multiple players, but I don’t know how close that is to release.
There are two different features in WinCraps - auto play and auto betting. With auto play, you can have it always take or lay max odds, replace won/lost bets and auto-roll the dice. Auto-bet is a “whole ‘nother thing”. It’s basically a programming language in English. It takes some work to master, that’s for sure, but, in my view, well worth it. Also, you can download some example auto-bet files from the cloudcitysoftware.com website; they give you a pretty good idea of how to do different things. Also, I have a large number of my own auto-bet files, including some handy templates for doing different things, and I am glad to share them.

Thank You Alan, It sounds as though Wincraps 5.1 is a must. Alan would it be a fair statement to say in general that the results from an Auto-Play & Auto Bet sessions are close to accurate to actual Casino Play results? The reason I ask is that I live in Santa Monica,Ca. it would be great to perfect my betting strategies before making the trip to Las Vegas. I think you know what I am getting at…
Regarding the offer on your template sharing, It would be best if I could communicate my entire system approach and strategy to you so that we can choose the proper templates and settings. Would you be interested in helping me this way? I would like to set my entire approach on the Auto Play- Auto Bet to practice sessions, then play in Vegas privately first, and if it works reasonably well, post my results and systematic play to the forum.
Craps is a great game, especially when you enjoy the Play!

I lived in West LA for several years while attending UCLA, and my brother lived in West LA for many years. Santa Monica is probably the nicest part of the LA area.
I believe that WinCraps’ results are no different than what you would experience throwing dice. The big difference is that you can simulate millions of rolls, thousands and thousands of sessions, whereas it would take years to do that “longhand”.
