I have my rig on a foldout table. Should I count the rolls where the dice slidefrom the rig landing area down to the table surface.

From what I have been able to determine this is a safety issue.  For the dice to hit the wall on the fly they have to be thrown with a fair amount of force and/or with a pretty high arc.  In either case they stand a good chance of leaving the table and hitting another player, possibly causing injury.  Understandably casinos need to protect themselves from personal injury litigation and so caution players who turn the dice into dangerous projectiles that the dice must bounce.  (A dealer at Harrah’s Del Rio in Laughlin once told me he got an early out when he caught a corner of a die on the prominent vein on the back of his hand and couldn’t stop the bleeding.)  “Both dice to, not through, the wall, please.”  OTOH I saw an underhand shooter hit the wall on the fly and draw no comment from the crew—but he did it only once.  From my observations, as it is with most rules for shooting, how strictly it is enforced varies from house to house.

To count the toss or not - that is the question!

Just be consistent with the way you count. 

I practice on a full size table - my rule is: If I set the dice (to a particular set) then I write down the results.

Sometimes I am not “setting” the dice I am simply trying to hit a spot on the table.  In this case I don’t care what the results are.

Do you have to hit the table before the back wall - not that I know of.  I actually find it hard to toss the dice that far.
I have tossed (practiced) so much to have the dice hit a certain spot that toss them as far as the back wall (on the fly)
can be difficult.

If you check out Heavy’s site there are some pretty cheap (portable) practice rigs available.  I think there are instruction on how to build a practice rig - I don’t remember where off the top of my head.

After a few hundred hours of practice you should be able to toss the dice with such little energy that they shouldn’t roll to far from the back wall.

It’s all way good to hear that someone is practicing ... keep it up.

To answer your question about the dice having to bounce before they hit the back wall. “NO” You could just hit the back wall with the dice, but if you hit the wall anywhere but right at the bottom of the rubbers where the rubbers and the felt meet you will never have any rolls but random rolls. The rubber with the diamonds were installed on craps tables to keep the game random, that is why the casinos want you to hit the back wall.

You as a dice setter will have to work on you’re shooting to where you can get the dice to land in one spot bounce once or just land, and hit the back wall right where the rubbers meet the felt so the dice do not get into the diamonds, it can be done with practice.

Most players will fail, because they will not put the time in practicing! It’s like anything else if you want to be good or great at anything you have to put the time in practicing.

Two things that will help you out set your practice rig at 29” or what your local casinos have their tables beds at. They have come out with some new tables that are higher than that now. You don’t have to take a tape measurer into a casino, just walk up to the table in question and stand right at the table then put a mark on an old pair of pants where the bed of the table is!

If you have the time to build your own rig you will be better off you can order the rubbers online and get the on-line make the rig at least 3X8 ft.

Do not count the dice that go off the rig, just as you would not count them if they went off the table, then spend all the time you can practicing. It helps if you practice your betting at the same time so it comes second natured when you are in a real casino.

On my 4th night of controlled practice I pushed my 7 average down to 11% and my 8 average up to 19%. Did 72 rolls.  Out of all that my streak at the end was 21 long and I quit there without a 7 b/c I want to practice in multiples of 36. I love practicing. I used to play hockey and to me getting the right roll is a lot like taking the perfect slapshot.
