I have an upcoming trip to Vegas and was thinking of changing up my strategy.

In the past, I have typically played the pass line with max odds, 3 come bets with max odds, and some side bets.  I usually have around $150 - $175 on the table at any give time ($5.00 Min).

I am thinking of doing this:

- $25 Pass Line Bet with max odds
- $30 of the 6/8 each
IF the point is 6 OR 8
- $30 on the open 6 OR 8
- Buy the 4 AND 10 for $24 each

If I have the bank roll why not up my pass line and play bigger on the numbers the house has the smallest edge?

Just curious what some of the more seasoned players think of this basic strategy?

It is a good strategy if your buy-in is 2000 dollars.

I’m sure you meant buying the 4/10 at 25 dollars.

I personally would place the 6 or the 8 and go thru the come box twice and wait. If numbers start hitting I would replace come bet with place bets, making sure I take profit off the table. I would eventually spread to all numbers. One very big key is to try to recapture your initial outlay as soon as possible before going up on bets or spreading to other numbers.

Start with minimum bets and work your way up.

I would say your old strategy and your new proposed strategy are both fine.

The first night I will buy in with 2k and try this new to me strategy.

I will report back on the success.

That is the betting system I use mostly.

If the casino you go to have higher odds option, say 10X or 20X, most of the downtown casinos have that, you may want to switch back to your previous pass-come-come-come option, in which, hitting several “outside” number in a row will make you money fast; but at the meantime, the variance will be high.

Other’s comments on preserve your initial bankroll is excellent, start out small, and leave the table when you think the “streak” is over.

OH, don’t forget, get the player’s card, the way you bet, you will have 300 on the table easy, you should have your meal and hotel paid by the casino.

Good catch!  A RFB (room, food, beverage) comp is definitely in the wood IMHO, though probably only on the Strip.  Except for Golden Nugget downtown isn’t noted for giving out comps.  Wherever you play make sure to ask a suit what you have to do to get what you want, and don’t be afraid to walk out the door if you don’t like the answer.

As for the betting strategies both are high variance as crap god noted.  I personally would want a bankroll greater than $2K for either one of them, but especially for the revised one where you’re up on four or five numbers immediately.  A few quick outs could make for a very short session.

I would be tempted to meld the two strategies.  Start with Pass and three Comes, using the 5-Count before taking odds.  Then, as Pass and Come numbers hit with odds go “down and back” (i.e. replace Pass/Come bets with Place bets) for maybe half what you had up, then use a winning progression as the Place bets hit.  For example, suppose you’re on a number with $5 flat and $25 odds.  If it hits you go down and back for $15/$18.  If it hits again press to $20/$24.  Of course this strategy can be adjusted to taste, like waiting to press until you’ve recovered your initial investment on a shooter, but it will save you some grief on the point-sevens yet still cash in on the hot hands.

When you take money from your come odds and put it on place/buy bets, you are increasing your expected loss and not increasing your variance. What are the max odds where you play? As a basic principle, I try to maximize the percentage of my money on the odds bets.

When buying the 4/10, find out what is the maximum bet that still has only a $1 vig. Some places you can bet $30 for a $1 vig and they collect only on a win. That reduces the house edge to 1.11%, lower than the line bets!
Cheers,
