I am pretty new to the game of craps and have done all my learning on systems on my own, either from watching other players or running simulators or even being bored enough to roll dice thousands of times sitting in my living room. The question I have is regarding how I should be pressing my bets. When I head to the casino to play I usually bring 600 bucks and try to play 3 sessions at 200 a piece. The table I play most often is a $3 minimum. I usually play $5 on the pass line and for the odds I follow the 3x on 4 and 10, 4x on 5 and 9, and 5x on 6 and 8. I also place the 6 and 8 for $6. Now when the 6 or 8 hits I press both up at the same time until I reach $24. Should I be pressing both when one hits or just one at a time. Also when i reach the $24 dollar bet, i take them both back down to $6 is that right or should I be leaving them up longer? Any insight would be great. Also the table I play at is 10x odds. Should i be taking full odds that are offered or for my bankroll am i doing alright. I average at the tables about $150 to $200 profit using this. I am open to suggestions to try and make some more money.

With that kind of profit I would not change a thing.

I am always amused by the feeling that one must press your bets. Regression avoids depression, maybe not yet, but it’s coming.

So on a point of 9 you have $5 Pass with $20 odds, and $12 total on 6 and 8 which you press to $24 (by adding $5) if either hits.  That’s $42, or over 20%, of your original $200 stake at risk after one hit on the place bets.  I would classify that as a very aggressive strategy.

OTOH, since you’re averaging 75-100% profit per session, I can’t argue with success.  However, you do need to be prepared for some rather short sessions if the dice are even only moderately unfriendly.  If you are going to fix something that does not seem to be broken you might consider progressing your odds with the payoffs from the place bets after they hit your limit, with or without regression.

a few things to keep in mind…..  Just because the table offers 10x doesnt mean that you should take full odds… That in my opinion would be super aggressive for your bankroll.  I’ve played at 500x odds tables.  Doesn’t mean i’m gonna even consider it just because they offer it. 

Also, hears a good rule of thumb for you bankroll to average bet calculation.  They say on average one in ten shooters has a good shake.  So if you bring 200 dollars per session, then your average investment should be 20 dollars or in the case of a 5 dollar table you can go 22 inside and still feel pretty comfortable with that.  If you bring all 600 for one session, then your average bet can be 60 dollars per shooter and still feel pretty comfortable.  If you use that method, then you can figure out how to not play beyond your bankroll. 

As far as pressing.  I would only press once my initial return is in the rail.  Thats just about 3 hits if your playing the inside.  Take same bet three times then press. 

With a 5 dollar pass line and 20 dollars in odds with a 6 dollar 6 and 8.  You are already investing too much for your 200 dollar bankroll.  I would personally lay off the odds.  I wouldnt even bet the pass line.  However, if you make a pass line bet for 5, simply invest 17 inside or 16 inside depending on the point number.  Then you covered the entire inside.  After three same bet takes, you are playing with the casinos money.  You were investing 42 dollars but had a real heavy pass line.  You would have better returns if you took 44 dollars and covered the inside with 10 dollar bets.  10 on the 5 and 9, and 12 on the 6 and 8.  That way you would also avoid full pressing or even power pressing your first hit just to get your bets up to that desired value of 12 or higher. 

With that being said…i would even take my 600 dollars and break it down to 440 and play one sessions with that money.  This way you wouldn’t be playing beyond your bankroll. 

If the numbers are poppin and you want to take odds with your profit.  I would take single odds.  10 dollar flat, i would take 10 dollars in odds.  5 dollar flat i would take 6 dollars or 5 dollars in odds depending on the point.  Some casinos will even allow half odds.  Something to look in to.  Treat your odds like your place bets, only press with your profit, and never parlay or full press.  Take some and press some.

I agree to staying off the pass line unitl the roll gets good.  I bet 18 and 18 on 6 and 8.  On the first hit I go to 34 for 3 numbers (6,8 and 5 or 9).  I now have 23 and just need one hit to be up.  Then I can get a little agressive and eventually get on the line.  Also, I do not leave the 6 or 8 just because it may be the point.  The dice don’t know it is the point.
