G7SitW—- interesting points that reminds me of a couple of stories:
The Encore Beach Club (private European topless pool) has an outside mini-tub craps table with misters above it and a hard surface below it. The lady next to me was shooting topless - IMO a distraction to what she was really doing ........ she was getting her fingers wet from the misters, getting the dice moist to stick together, then setting for the hardways and tossing hardways .... the dice were wet and sticky and almost glued tite together as they tossed softly across the small table, landing on a hard 8 ....
When the dice came to me, I accidently tossed one dice off the table ... when I asked for same dice, I noticed one had a chip on it from hitting the hard poolside surface. The result is that I was able to throw a lot of 9s ..... so each time the dice came to me, I would slide my fingers across the dice to find that chipped dice .... and have fun on the 9s as long as I was not distracted by the nice scenery.
Re: Roulette .... When we met with the Nevada Gaming Commission regarding the unbalanced dice, the # 1 point they wanted to drive home to us is that their job was to protect the assets (chips) of the casinos no matter what it takes. The 2nd point the Nevada Gaming Commission wanted to stress to us is that it is hard to make equipment perfect (like slot machines that malfunction to a jackpot).
.... to illustrate, the Nevada Gaming Commission told us:
In Monte Carlo (France), the casino shuts down for 2 hours every morning. One Friday this whale has found a bias on one of the roulette wheels and is making a killing on it. So when the casino closes in the morning, the casino takes the biased roulette wheel and switches it to another table. The big bettor comes back in the next day and tries to make another killing but is unable to with the switched wheel.
Similar “protection” is followed in Sam’s Town, Las Vegas—- they employ 4 different kinds of dice at Sam’s Town. As soon as the bonus craps prop bet All, Tall, Small is hit big by a patron, the very next shift will have the extremely unbalanced dice in play. It is simple Cash Management 101, but casual craps players are not able to tell the difference.
... we can put a man on the moon, but we can not make perfect roulette wheels or balanced bones .... That’s the Gaming Commission’s story and they are sticking to it—- yea right, some suckers are born every minute and the casinos are counting on it .... but I am not buying it.
