Hi

I understand that the lay bet charges a vig of 5%.  However, I cannot find a definitive answer as to when this 5% vig is taken.  I have read it is taken on winnings and other times on what you have bet. so as an example

Lay the number 10 for £40
a 7 is thrown
at odds of 2:1
You get back

(£40 + £20) - 5% = £57

OR

£40 + (£20-5%) = £59

Which is correct?

Now is this still charged on the come out roll as well?  As i was playing online and couldn’t see the vig been taken from my balance.

Thanks all

I cannot find a definitive answer as to when this 5% vig is taken.

Depends on where you are playing. In Atlantic City, for example, virtually all the places charge the vig when you put down the bet. (Except sometimes not for the 4 and 10 if the vig is charged only on a win). If you take down the bet, the vig is returned every time.

In Vegas, the casinos are all over the board on this bet.

In U.S. casinos, the general custom is to put down $41 to win $20. If the casino does not collect on losing bets, you may not have to give the dealer the $1 until the payoff—sort of like the banker commission in baccarat.

The vig on a lay bet is 5% of what you win and is taken up front.

4/10 .....Lay 40 win 20…....vig is 5% of 20 or 1.  Give the dealer 41, he keeps the 1 and gives you 20 when you win.

You can make the lay bet at anytime and is always working. You can’t turn it off. It is on the table or off the table. If you take the bet down the vig is returned to you.

I think it is a good bet. I would hedge it with a hard 4/10 although this would not be the mathematically correct play. Of the 3 ways you can lose you would eliminate 1 ( 33% ).

The vig can be reduced from 5% if, for example, you lay 78 dollars instead of 80 dollars, due to rounding down.

Place and lay bets yield equal results, even though you will win more often with lay bets.

It really depends on you as there is no right and wrong when the gods determine if you will win ( not you ).

Many people say the best bet is the one that pays closest to true odds, and I cannot argue with that.

Its the best bet you can make because you know the seven will roll.On a cold table you can rack up cheddar. Its best to play the 10 an 4 together just after either was rolled previously

But be warned if you are laying the 4/10 the casino will catch on to you if you are winning a LOT.If both numbers “happen to roll while you have this bet” LEAVE THE TABLE

How is it the best bet?  How do you know the seven will roll?

What kind of question is that ?

  Where are you playing -

  Who is shooting—

What do you observe about the shooter’s mannerisms ( how do they handle the dice ) -

Laying against the 4 and/or 10 is probably one of the most intelligent manuevers in the game of craps -

However -

There is a downside to each and every upside -

The upside in your scenario is the RandomRoller -

He/she will most likely NOT hit those #‘s -

If they did - the odds of repeating that event are substaintailly against them -

The downside is the dice mechanic -

He/she will set for that particular # and more likely than not - will achieve their anticipated / expected results -

WHEN BETTING UNKNOWNS ONE NEEDS TO OBSERVE WHAT IF ANY INFLUENCE THE SHOOTER MAY HAVE OVER THE OUTCOME OF THE THROW -

And that,  in my estimation,  is the answer to your question !
