i am new to craps and only have played a handful of times. i have been putting myself up on the six and eight on every roll. sometimes i keep the bet up and other times after it hit i would take it down or reduce it. is there a strategy for the 6 and 8? should my bet be the same amount as my pass line bet or double or triple that amount and when do i leave, take down or reduce my bet? thanks scott22

There are many ways to play it.

Primary goal will be to get your money back before you put more money on the table.

If you get your money back you can either go thru the come box or cover the 4 and 10….if you keep winning, than cover the 5 and 9. With all point number covered you have a chance to win 2 out of 3 rolls of the dice. Slowly increase your bets as you are winning.

Initially, if you do not get a win on the 6 or 8 after 3 rolls of the dice remove those bets from the table and wait for the shooter to 7 out or make is point ; if he makes the point replace the 6 and 8 and repeat.

It doesn’t matter how much money you make for a place bet as long as you bet the table minimum.

Place bets and/or making come bets are very acceptable ways to play. You should always have at least 3 numbers covered ( includes pass line).

The dark side is another story.

I suggest there are close to as many strategies for betting as there are players.  Each player must decide for him/herself what is important (e.g. playing time, thrills, action, profit potential, risk of ruin, etc.) and in what proportions, and then pick or devise a strategy that maximizes your gambling experience based on those factors.  For my thoughts see http://midnightskulker.casinocitytimes.com/articles/1453.html.
