I have always wanted to play craps but never knew enough to go put my money down. I have doing some research and played some online games. My main concern is that I want to make sure 1) I’m following proper etiquette and 2) not betting unknowingly in a way that is detrimental to my bank roll. I have a couple questions if you all could help me out.
1. I saw on youtube a strategy where you first make your pass line bet with table minimum then once the point is made you bet 1 unit in the field and cover the 6 & 8 in the box numbers. the field bet helps cover the other numbers untill you bankroll enough house money to cover the rest of the box numbers. then progressively with wins you cover all box numbers. i’ve tried this online and seems to work ok, would this work in the “real world”? seems like it may be a common strategy
2. using the strategy above in my on line play, once was the point is made i have been clearing out my box bets and repeating the process from scratch with a new come out roll. Is this the right thing to do? or do i just let them site there until the shooter sevens out?
3. setting the dice. i saw on youtube a series on setting the dice, i think it was golden touch craps (something like that?). as long as you aren’t slowing the game will everyone casino allow you to set the dice however you want before rolling?
4. in Vegas will I have a hard time finding $5 tables on strip? I dont want to invest a ton of money on a game I have never played.
Thanks everyone
Welcome to the world of craps. You will find it exciting and fun and occassionally profitable. Play for entertainment not with the expectation of winning. Buy in with money you are willing to lose. If you leave with any of it, be happy. If you leave with more than you came with, be ecstatic.
Everyone will have some advice based on their own experience. Here is mine…Lean the house advantage of each bet. It can be found by googling “house advantage craps”. House advantage is a mathematical calculation which takes into account the liklihood of a bet winning and the amount you get paid if the bet wins. You should be most frequently betting the bets with low house advantage. But it is fine to occassionally bet some of the bets with the highest house advantage. Especially if you are winning. They can be fun, but if they are the majority of your bets, more often than not you will lose your bankroll fairly quickly.
So in answering your specific question, I peronally do not make field bets nor do I recommend them. They have a higher house advantage (5.54%) than placing the 6 or 8 (1.52%) or the 5 or 9 (4%) .
Regarding setting the dice, you will find some heated opinions on this board. Yes you will usually be allowed to set the dice anyway you want. Yes, the dealers or sometimes the other players will sometimes get a little uppset with you, but not usually. In fact, if you are on a good streak and there are some bets being placed for the dealers as tips, they will want you to keep doing exactly what youare doing.
But realize, that simply setting the dice and throwing them randomly through the air and against the back will result in a random result. Setting dice can be fun in a superstitious / ritualistic way, but you are not doing anything to influence the result. (I think even those believeing in dice influencing will agree with me). If Dice influencing is possible, it would only be through a very disciplined approach to sending the ice through the air at a precise speeed, height and spin and landing them in such a precise location as to minimize or eliminate the ouncing or rolling of the dice while meeting the casinos rewquirment to hit the back wall. Unless you will spend many hours working on this skill, do not expect that you will be successful at it.
And finally, you will not find $5 craps at the big casinos on the strip. Some of the smaller ones, like Bills or O’Sheas or Casino Royale, are likely to have them.
