One of the things I love about craps is all of the slang that is used for bets.  Some are well known - like “yo” and “Boxcars”.

I have learned some new ones lately -
Two for the turn (aces)
Dolly Parton (9 and 5)
Puppy Paws (5 and 5)
Woolworths (5 and ten) - you have to be from the east to understand that one.

I would love to hear from others who have heard of some more.  Please add your favorites (with the definitions).

or if you heard a term that you do understand, list it and maybe someone will be able to define it for you.  For example, what is a “buffalo”? (yes I know what a buffalo animal is;  I want to know what a buffalo bet is)

ED :  “A triple and a double….... catcher’s and fielder’s…... and Dolly Parton”
JOHNNY :  “Name two big hits, two big mitts…..and a famous country singer!”

Little Joe on Viagra: Hard four

Sounds more like a Shakespeare play: Much Ado About Nothing.

While we’re on the subject, a stickchick at my local haunt once asked me, “What do you call a hard ten?”  My response: “A miracle!”  Upon recovering she said her answer was, “Money.”

3) A flea

1) A method of betting designed to “grind” out a small profit over a prolonged period of play (as opposed to a quick hit and run method).  For example, making one and only one Don’t Pass bet per shooter is considered a grind because the player doing this will sit out a hot hand.

2) A “George” is a big tipper; a “virgin George”, a term I have not heard BTW, would be a big tipper playing for the first time.  (“George” derives from the picture of George Washington on the American $1 bill.)

3) Technically a “flea” is a player who does not tip and bets only occasionally.  However, the term is loosely applied to any non-tipper regardless of betting frequency.

My only experience with cruise casinos is on a “cruise to nowhere” out of Madiera Beach, FL.  Nevertheless, by all accounts you should not expect great games (e.g. 1x odds only) in casinos on ships that actually go somewhere due to the captive nature of the audience.

Been on several cruises - Carnival, Cunard, Holland America.  Expect five dollar minimums, single odds, no fire bet and no hop bets. Also expect a lot of people who have never played before trying their hand at it. I think I taught about 10 newbies how to play last April.  Also, expect dealers that are not very good - keep track of your bets and the payouts.  Most of the dealers are young kids who rotate through three card poker, roulette, craps and whatever other table games are on board so they don’t get enough training orr experience to become really proficient.

Another problem I noticed on the cruises to nowhere I took was that dealers apparently had other duties relating to emergencies at sea.  I saw a list posted with what appeared to be stations assigned to dealers by number.  (For example, “Dealer 6—Forward Port Door”.)  I therefore presume dealer training included what to do in case of fire and other disasters, which would cut into total training time, not to mention be a bit of a distraction.

Thanks Guys,
I wont expect too much from the cruise company as they understand that they have a captured audience.
Before I took any interest in craps I could see that there appeared to be quite a few newbies at the table, and that the dealers moved to various games in the casino.
So I will watch my bets, and fully understand the payoffs.
Bet light,best odds,manage money,stay sober!

Fingers crossed1
Regards
Steve
