I am also a begginer I’ve been playing craps less than a year but have gotten pretty good at it. when you say fundamental bet I assume youre just asking how should you bet. so I’ll give my two cents and hopefully it will help you, most ppl would say the most fundamental bet in craps would be the pass line bet with odds as thats the bet that the house has the lowest odds on so if you play at say a five dollar (min bet table) that has 10x odd then you should make a flat 5 passline bet and take as many odds as u can afford thus giving u a ‘fundamental’ advantage over house odds. so if you can afford the 10x odds then it would be 50.00. now i am a begginer so any of you vets out there correct me if im wrong.
also other ppl would say that placing numbers is also a fundamental of craps, meaning those numbers out of your reach but in front of the dealer, they are 4,5,6,8,9,10 you can place your chips on the craps table and ask him to place whichevr point or points you want any amount you want. (at or above table mininum) most ppl would say the 6 and 8 are the best place numbers to bet as they have the second higest chance to hit other than the seven. ex; there are six ways to hit a seven,, but there are five ways each to hit a 6 or 8 also on the six or 8 you want to bet in multiples of six when placing because you get paid 7dollars for every six dollars bet whereas if u bet the five minimum you would only get five back if the six or 8 hit. well i got tons of info from reading learning listning to other craps ppl and from playing so ask anything and id be happy to help if i can,,,good luck
There are various bets in a craps game and for the novice player, it may seem very daunting. That’s why a clear understanding of what each bets means before you play will help you enormously during the game. If you feel too intimidated to try playing at a casino craps table the first time, there are many online casinos that will allow you to practice for free so you understand the rules of the game and what to do before you enter a casino, sites like casino-craps-odds.com/. This can be an excellent way to introduce yourself to the world of craps, and understand what each bet means before you hit a casino.
and download WinCraps, the best craps simulator I have ever seen. You can download a demo for free and fool around with it, and it’s only $19.95 for a license. You can make any kind of bet there is, and the Help file is like a craps primer, very well written. It also has a powerful simulation engine, meaning you can program it with any system you can imagine (this takes some work, admittedly) and simulate millions of rolls.
BTW, I am not associated with Cloud City Software, although I have used this software for many years.

What I would add is to make sure you know to play ‘Right’ and ‘Wrong’ To be a complete player you should know the game completely…...not only the bets but the rules of the game. There is no rule book on craps but most of the rules have evolved over the years and are pretty much universally accepted in all casinos. However, all casino’s are not identical RE: the rules.
Many casino’s have game books and if you have a casino near you, you should ask for their game book. It will outline the rules for their particular games, including craps.
In many casinos, if a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is thrown on the come out roll, the casino allows pass line bettors to take odds.
Read that as “all casinos”.

In craps, players can also choose to make a “don’t come” bet. The don’t come bet is essentially the opposite of a come bet, and means the player is wagering on the fact that a 7 will come before a point throw. Conversely, on the come out throw a 7 or 11 means the player loses, whereas a 2, 3, or a 12 automatically wins.
If that were the case, the don’t player would have an advantage over the house. Of course, in all casinos either the 2 or 12 is “barred”, i.e. it is a push, not a win for the player. Usually it is “bar 12”, but one of the casinos I just played at in Reno barred the 2, the first time I’ve seen that.

Most serious craps players don’t like making these types of bets (even though the house odds are pretty much the same for these bets as they are for the pass line and come bets.) As a matter of fact, serious craps players often think making these types of bets is poor taste and the mark of an amateur.
I don’t think that’s true at all. Many players avoid the “wrong” or “dark” side because some “rightside” players resent people betting “against the shooter.” However, all players are playing against the casino, and the fact that someone bets the darkside does not affect the chances of the rightside players.

Lamentably it has been over a year since I have been able to scrape up a bankroll, but in my experience 2 is the barred number throughout northern Nevada, even in houses that have a Las Vegas layout (i.e. one that has a Don’t Come box separate from the Don’t Pass line), while 12 is barred everywhere else.

For the best info I highly recommend downloading WinCraps from http://www.cloudcitysoftware.com. It is shareware, which means you get to try it out before you buy a license. The help file is a virtual textbook on the game.

I just got back from Reno, where the Silver Legacy had separate DC and DP boxes, but the others had one box for both. I really can’t recall which number was barred each place, but the only one I noticed was bar 2 (actually said “push”, I believe).
