Had a ball playing the darkside last week…...

In Cincy for work last week. Hit Hollywood for a few sessions last week.

I’m normally a right player, but the action was so cold the first night, I went against my inner pull (and typically, better judgement) to the darkside for the rest of my sessions.

Good decision…....(this time).

I quickly learned what being a darksider is all about….

Its about your little spot on the rail, quietly picking up your winnings after everybody elses cheques have been raked in
Its about knowing your role at the table, and when to show emotion (if any at all)
Its about betting more to win less, and being comfortable with that.
Its about siding with the one number you’ve been trying to avoid your whole craps playing career, and somehow nuzzling up beside a cozy fire with it, wrapped in a brillo pad blanket together. The friction and thickness in the air between you both, could be cut with a knife.
Its about somehow convincing the right siders to “stick around and roll” a few more times… smile
Its about figuring out what to do after all the right siders leave!

Had a good time, and managed to leave town up a little.

Right place at the right time, I guess.

For the record, I do not subscribe to sticking with “craps strategies”

I could lose my ass the next time I go to the dont’s.

I used to play the DP all the time because I’m an engineer and the slightly smaller house edge of the DP made me think that’s the smart way to go.
I had some good runs just as you described. The best one was where only me and one other PL player were at the table. I was uncanny. Almost every roll was point, seven out. The PL player sometimes didn’t want to roll and neither did I, but the dealer said, “We don’t have a game if no one rolls,” so I rolled: point, seven out many times. It’s Lady Luck at work. You did the smart thing: went with the flow!
The PL is more fun but sometimes you gotta go with the flow!

i love the dark side special spot at the table right in in the corner. i stand there and talk to them as i want for the seven out. i tip them will and unless your listening you can’t hear them say i have one betting the dont’s. i keep quiet when the seven out comes and pick up my chips. sometimes i will place a large stack of chips on the dont as a blocker or place a stack in fornt of the shooter. i dont do this all the time only when someone rubs me the wrong way. i also switch over and bet the pass and work on my dice setting. it’s funny because i will see a few people from time to time bet the dont on my just because i was playing the don’ts. on the life of a dark sider.

DP with 2x odds

One DC point with 2x odds.

The DC didn’t always survive, but my DP sure as hell did. Lord, the seven-outs…...

I like action….very tedious sitting there waiting….didn’t have to wait long, for most shooters…

Just curious, but why would I want to place odds on my DP bet? I have to lay twice the odds to win half that much, correct?  ($20.00 in odds to win $10.00, depending upon the point obviously).  Why not just put more on the DP since it pays even odds. You win the same with less at risk.  Or am I over looking something?

Thanks.

You are overlooking the fact that, unlike bets front side (Pass and Come) you cannot add to the flat portion once a point is established.

I understand that, but you still have to lay 2x odds to win half as much, regardless of the point.  So just always put $15.00 on the DP.  Granted you will never win more than $15.00, but you will also never lose more than $15.00.  If you put $5.00 plus $20.00 in odds (to win a total of $15.00), you will lose more ($25.00 total) if the point is made.

Im just thinking out loud. I havent played the dark side much. I just know I dont like to lay twice as much in odds as I want to win.

Not so.  Odds behind pay the inverse of odds front side.
Odds on points of 4 and 10 pay 2:1 front, 1:2 back.
Odds on points of 5 and 9 pay 3:2 front, 2:3 back.
Odds on points of 6 and 8 pay 6:5 front, 5:6 back.
Put another way,
    $30 odds behind 4 and 10 pays $15,
    $30 odds behind 5 and 9 pays $20,
    $30 odds behind 6 and 8 pays $25.

As for having to bet more than you will win, that is balanced out exactly by your being expected to win more times than you lose.  Many players shun laying odds for that reason, having to risk losing more than they stand to win, and that is fine, but mathematically it doesn’t matter.  In the long run odds on either side are expected to break even.

So funny. The animosity between those behind PL bets and those behind DP bets can get crazy.

I can’t understand why its called “wrong” or “dark”. Since once u get by the comeout gauntlet ur sittin pretty on the bright side of of the HA.
