I’m a begginer too but I’m 99% sure a hopping bet is that a certain number will come out on the next roll ...for example i may say ‘2-3 on the hop’ and toss a chip down on the table its saying that a five will come out on the next roll with the dice showing 2 and three if a four one comes then i dont win,,im not sure on the payout but its similar to a horn or a whirl bet. also if you bet a hardaway or a horn or whirl on the hop and call it as such im pretty sure you get paid better than the odds posted as well. i dont make these bets im still new but i hang around the craps tables and when ppl yell out things i dont understand i ask the dealers or the person whos making the calls.like a hard four pays like 7 to 1 or 9 to one but if you say hard four on the hop and it hits on that roll u get paid like 15 to 1 or something like that, its a risky way to bet but if your lucky and make good calls it pays well. i seen a guy with his last 25 out of like 500 start calling these prop bets alot of yo’s and ace duces within about ten mins he was up a thousand during this time i wasnt betting and my mouth was hanging open

hop bets are a one time bet.  You can hop any combination of a number.  Any combo that is soft pays 15 to 1.  And any combination hopped that is hard pays 30 to 1.  If you want to hop a 6 or 8, you can bet three dollars and cover all combination for making either the 6 or 8.  If you want to bet the 5 or 9, you can bet two dollars, and 4 and 10 is two dollars as well.

Thanx lucky,,,I dont think Im ready to make bets like that yet, but if i were to make a dollar yo bet, and yell on the hop as im tossing my dollar seeing as its a one time bet anyway would i get paid only 15 to 1 or 30 to 1? or does that sound stupid? i mean usually when im having a good session i sometimes make a few hardways and prop bets but only a few dollars,,, if i hit a bet i bet a few more and if i dont i stop altogether.

Thats not a stupid question at all.  This is exactly what the forums are for.  Anyways to answer your question.  You can hop any combination of any number 2 through 12.  But like you pointed out, aces, ace duece, yo, and 12 or (midnight), are all covered in the proposition or center bet section of the table.  Those are single roll bets just like hop bets.  So yes, you can throw a dollar and say “hop aces”, or “hop midnight”.  But they will just put your bets in the middle of the table instead of up top by the boxman where the hop bets are.  Reason being is because it is the same exact bet, and it is going to pay the same exact thing.  You wouldnt be wrong to say hop aces or hop a hard twelve. Its just that aces and midnight are never considered hard because their is no soft way to throw them.  I guess its just a lingo thing. Betting a dollar on a yo, whether you throw a dollar and say “give me a dollar yo”, or “hop the eleven”, is going to pay 15 to 1 either way.  It is the same bet.  They are covered in the props so they arent commonly called hop bets.  I would say if you are calling out a hop bet, to just call it out if your betting a 4 through 10.  Anything else, it is covered through the prop so just throw the money to the stick instead of the dealer or box and bet that way.  Now the only exception is the 7.  Their is an any seven bet which pays 4 to 1, and you can hop sevens.  Both are one roll bets.  The difference is if you hop a seven it pays 15 to 1.  If you bet a 3 dollar hoppin seven and a 43 shows.  You get payed 15 to 1.  So the dealer hands you 15 and your dollar on the 43 stays up.  And the two dollars covering the 52 and 61 are taken down.  If you put 3 dollars on an any seven, and a seven is thrown, then you would make twelve dollars and your three would stay up.  So in essence you if you took your original bets down, you would make an extra dollar if you hopped the sevens. My opinion is that you stay away from hop bets or any prop bets for that matter.  I would hedge my pass line bet with any crap if i was shooting.  Thats about it.  Occasionally betting the props are fun, but i would only bet the hard ways if they are hitting and im up a good amount of money for the session.  Once i get rollin its hard to stop, but i hoped this helped.

How to make a hop bet

The hops bet, named after the legendary craps pro, Winston “the Hopper” Smith and is a little known one roll “verbal” bet that lets you win on a combination of numbers.

It’s got a payout of 15:1, so if you make this bet correctly, you can really win.

Again this is a one roll verbal bet.

So, if you have an idea that, say a 3 and 2 are coming - you bet “3+2 hopping”.

Any other combo other than 3+2 is a loss.

As the payout for a hop bet is 15:1, if you bet $5 on 3+2 hopping and it came, you win $75.

BEST WAY TO USE HOP BETS IF ARE A CONTROLLED SHOOTER

Say you believe a hardway six is coming on the next roll you can bet, for example, “$5 3&3 hop”.

Why do that? Well a hard way hops bet pays double. So instead of 15:1 (on a regular hop bet) you get 30:1 for your bet!

That means, your successful bet $5 hardway 6 hop, won you $150 (at 30:1) instead of $35 at 7:1 – or $110 more!

Don’t forget, your hardway hop bet (at 30:1) was for one roll only. The regular hardway bet (at 7:1 or 9:1) remains until it wins or loses.

Check with the dealer to see if the table pays 30:1 on hard way hops.

So with a payout of 30:1 means you can bet $5 hard way hopping on the 4,6, 8 or 10 and win $150. Were you to bet only hardway you would have won $35 (7:1) on the 4/10 or $45 (9:1) on the 6/8.

You can also use the hop bets when you notice a shooter with his own ‘signature’ roll. This is easy to spot. The signature shooter will bet big on a certain number. Let’s say the point is four and he buys the 6 or 10 for $50. Don’t buy the same number, but rather “hop” to another and win more money!

These bets will add variety and hopefully help you make some good money when you play craps.
